    Turkey rejects latest EU proposals

ANKARA, Turkey Turkey's Foreign Ministry said Monday that Turkey has rejected proposed changes to its framework agreement with the EU, deepening a crisis as EU leaders tried to overcome a deadlock over starting European Union entry talks.

Accession talks are scheduled to open later Monday, but Austria has insisted that Turkey is offered a partnership if full membership talks do not work out.

Turkey has said it will only accept full membership talks.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Namik Tan said that ''the EU has proposed some changes to the framework document....

Some countries are already suggesting they wont be a full member but just a member on the sideline.

For sure theyve got a lot to arrange there before becoming an EU members, esp human rights situations

A majority of Europeans simply don't want Turkey in the EU. Austria is the only country actually listening to the citizens.

I have been to Turkey and have a few friends from there. Its a very poor country and there is a lot of shit going on behind the scenes. Poverty, torture, death penalty, corruption.

I dont want them in our EU until they sort their shit out and become more humane.

Turkey is a runaway middle eastern shithole.

Mostly, Turkish people are fine, however.

Yep it is interesting. The further centralised the power is the less and less they give a shit about what the people actually think. It is about time the EU practiced what they preached.

                    I agree. That's good news.

If Turkey enters the EU we would border Syria, Iraq and Iran.
I say again, Syria, Iraq and Iran....

Because of the Schengen agreement people would just have to cross Turkey's outer borders to move freely amongst the EU member states.
Fat chance that's EVER gonna happen. Ofcourse if Turkey ever got any kind of EU membership they would probably not be part of the Schengen agreement anyway.

But Turkey will never be a member. It's not Europe, and people don't want them in.

Turkey: Officials Try to Shut Down Rights Group

(New York, September 27, 2005)?The threat by Turkish officials to close down an organization defending lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people's rights violates basic freedoms of association and expression, Human Rights Watch said today.

Selahattin Ekremoglu, deputy governor of the Turkish capital Ankara, on September 15 wrote a letter to the gay and lesbian group Kaos GL that said a court procedure had been opened to dissolve the organization. He claimed that the name and regulations of the group violated a provision in the Turkish Civil Code that forbids "establishing any organization that is against the laws and principles of morality."

Exactly the reason why they should not even be considered to be part of the EU.

What's even more funny that in our country a lot of pepple talk shit about Turkish people, but in the summer they do go on holiday to Turkey because its cheap.

You should cause the Turkish ppl in places like Marmaris arent represented in Holland. Live there is cool and reasonably wealthy, the ones who all came to Holland are the poorest Turkish ppl, like in every country.

Its like Paris isnt France, whole different area, different ppl, different way of life.

As soon as you leave the tourists places you'll see a lot of shit, people living under rocks, in camps and shit...

Turkey looks nice in the magazines but there's definetly still a shitload of poverty....
                                          Very very true.

But at least I am being consequent myself. I don't like turkish people here so I will not spend a dime in their country either. And nobody's gonna change that!

I don't really care if they join. If they meet the economic conditions and such, I could care less if they're Muslims or Christians...

Religion has nothing to do with it. It will have one big influence for both german and dutch governments, theyll have inside info bout social security payouts in Turkey, a lot more then now, its cool for the Turkish there, its not so cool for those who have been telling our governments they have 10 children in Turkey and now face penalties.

... and for all the dutchies who have appartments in Alanya they didnt tell the IRS bout... the dutch government already published the fees they gotta pay and ill tell you that aint nice

The people of Turkey have no business being included in the EU. They are not indiginous to Europe in any way at all and the only reason they have anything of value is because they stole it from the Greeks.

Their refusual to comply to EU sanctions further goes to show that they should not only have their application revoked, but that all her enemies should attack and destroy her once and for all.

The government is a piece of shit for keeping their people down and poverty stricken for generations and the way they have treated Greeks for centuries by seizing assets, property and wealth is comparable only to the holocaust that the Jews cry about every chance they get.

Turkey is a Muslim country from the Middle East and should not even be considered for inclusion to the EU. Case Closed.

Dude Turkey is poor and the part that isnt, isnt because ppl from Holland and Russia go there and spend serious cash. Not because of the fact the Turkish government succeeded.

It means the rich countries have to pay even more and they get an open invitation to come in even greater numbers to Holland. Besides, their culture is so way off it wouldn't blend with the EU culture.

Turkey will make further progress in human rights inside EU and that will be the outcome by slowly removing the military control that still exists there. Turks are not different than Greeks, Dutchs or British people. I strongly believe that and I have experienced it. Under certain conditions they can be fanaticized, but no more than the rest. I believe they should be given a logical time-frame to meet further requirements.

Many europeans do not want Turkey because they are afraid the immigration and the impact it will have in the work place. I fully understand it and it's a concern that has to be seen, but I find it unacceptable to make use of other excuses to express their concerns. If you say you don't like turks you are nothing more than the negative imagine you have about them in your mind.
