best way to pick up expired domain

    best way to pick up expired domain

    i'm waiting for a domain name that's expired and pending delete.. what's the best way to try to and ensure that i get it?

    i know godaddy.com has a service which will monitor for you daily and attempt to register it should it become available... domain back-ordering i believe its called..

    what other registrars offer a similar service?

    is there another/better way to go about this?

          depends how many others want it.
          If theres at least one big guy that wants it you can forget about it.
          You'll never succeed against someone bigger, this guys have tools have their
          own registrars and they catch the domains before you even see the updates
          in the root servers.
          If its not an important domain but has traffic or type ins and you think you have a
          chance of getting it your best bet is pool.com
          If its a shitty domain nobody wants any registrar will do

                      i kinda figured i'd have to be my own registrar to register it instantly, but anyone can still query the root server and its all still fair game at that point, isn't it?

                          Well thats how it should be but its not.
                          The root server its not just one server. And each root zone its a cluster of servers.
                          Problem is they don't update at the exact same time. This guys prolly pay big bucks
                          for this kind of info. I've studied the problem for quite some time but I'm not gonna
                          get back in game till I don't get my own registrar because I have no chance for the big
                          domains.

                                                          i see what you're saying.

                                                          but lets assume querying "master" root server is moot, as its public knowledge when that domain will be released.. why couldn't you just spam ICANN with registration data at 00:00:01 on release date, provided you were an accredited registrar?
