The Federal Communications Commission has killed its long, drawn out consideration of cell phones on passenger airplanes by deciding against allowing their use.

But the commission didn't close the door on in-flight Internet access, and the 300-member Wi-Fi Alliance believes the wireless vacuum on planes will soon be filled by wireless data-access technology.

I am with the FCC on this. People are boorish fools, by and large, and it is hellish to be stuck listening to one side of some moron's inane conversation.

That's on the ground. I can't imagine having to do it in the air.

in case of emergency there should be a cellphone on board but i am absolutely against dumbasses being bored, calling their relatives or friends talking about some stupid stuff

and i still can't believe it won't affect the onboard electricity at all

I read the results of a study not too long ago and it said that 25% of all airline passengers forget to turn off their phone during the flight. Why don't we see many more crashes if that is true? Just food for thought...

It would be hell if every idiot next to you was talking during the flight though..

i'm torn, the only reason not to allow cellphones in flight i think is for the reason selena mentioned - people being annoyingly rude on their cell phones when you're stuck next to them for potentially hours could really suck.

i don't turn mine off when we fly, but i don't really listen for it either. i have never got a call in the air, but have missed calls while boarding etc that would have not been in the missed calls if the phone was off

Eh i did a study on this before for class..

cell phone use DOES NOT affect the onboard navigation system of the airplane(the crap they tell you before you take off)

But yea, if you leave ur cellphone on during flight the plane wont crash...
