Observation: Mainstream vs. Adult
Mainstream supposed 'experts' seem to be overly concerned with Web 2.0.

That's true. A lot of chicken little's out there in adult.
But when I listen to some of these "guru's" for mainstream, they are mentioning web 2.0 over and again like it's around the corner. Don't get me wrong. I know it's something on the radar, but my God..
Another thing I find humorous is how they (not all, but many) look down on adult and say it's, "easy".
Oh,.. and let's not even get to the mainstream message board Nazi's.

I was on D.P. and was asking about mobile. Being new it was ignored, and dropped like a stone. I bumped the thread, and was warned a week after bumping it I was in the wrong.

Web 2.0 mainly has to do with the infrastructure by the servers, but more importantly XHTML, and getting everyone on properly coded HTML so shit shows up correctly on mobile devices.
People tend to refer to "web 2.0" by one, or the other, or both.
Regardless, you are talking about YEARS if ever getting everyone on HTML 3.0 or XHTML over time. Mainly those who need to cater to mobile will be those who adapt.

Yep. If people think the rules here are bad, they should go try and get some help on mainstream boards. If you last a week with some of the GFY tactics, I'd be surprised.

I find that funny as well. The competition in adult makes or breaks you.
Those in mainstream who have a fucking clue ackowledge that the internet as a marketplace was developed via the adult business, and pushing technology, and application in the early years.

I typically stay away from religon, and politics. Especially when I am dealing with money, and looking for the 'gems' you occasionally find on boards. But the mini Hitler's run a tight regime in the ultimate of 'good ole boy' networks.
People like ShoeMoney are considered god, and there are a handful of others that are like Moses. Almost everyone else, especially anyone from adult, is looked down on.
But to listen to (some) of these web wizards talk you would think they are all Al Gore Jr.

Exactly.
There was a ton of money given to the telco's back in the Clinton years that was supposed to expand the internet into rural areas, and increase the speeds to those you see in Japan, and other countries.
Well good old American corporate greed in it's finest... the telco's took the money, and never delivered.
Then have the NERVE to talk about the tiers system now on the net nuetrality and blah blah.

i prefer the idea of an extention for mobile devices more than web 2.0. no matter how properly coded the html is, content and graphic rich sites will never look good on phones. in my opinion on the only way to provide a site that you can actually use on a phone is by having a seperate site altogether for it.I hear you.

I pay for the verizon web crap and never use it... If I need to do something on the web I use my freakin Vaio and find the nearest hotspot. IMHO mobile tech has not even come close to being usable for what the telcos try to push on consumers.
Regarding the adult biz... I truely believe the internet is what it is today largely due to the adult industry, And this is coming from a mainstream webmaster! After almost a 10 year layoff... I'm getting back into the adult game.Comment

The average person doesn't carry around a laptop with them typically. I think mobile internet is an eventuality, its just a matter of time because its really useable. The only thing i use it for is to look up phone numbers and addresses on 411 but i think that will change as mobile phones evolve. maybe 5 years or so down the road.you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..Comment

I agree wholeheartedly there.
But the main discussion point is that html is sloppy (as you can see with some pages and how they show up in Opera, Fixfox/Mozilla, versus I.E.). Where XHTML is supposed to correct that with formal coding which can be functional on wireless, and handhelds.

Agreed. However mainstream has caught up, and in some ways passed adult on innovation, and to monetizing the web, or nickel and dimeing it. But the fact remains that adult is, and what has, pushed a lot of technology over the years.

It tends to 'vary' based on who you talk to. Programmers, website owners, marketing people.
Like you, I've heard of it referred to in all of those ways... from the backbone, to the end of html in version 4.0, and development of XHTML. All I am sure important, but I think it's a lot of 'dream' talk.Comment

I agree with you. It's a good 3-5 years down the line. A lot of mainstream webby's seem obcessed with it from the way they are talking.
Dont' get me wrong here. I can see why being prepared for the next thing is important, but my point simply was there is a lot of talk about that, and seems less on the "content is king" value.
Also a lot of talk on the white, and black hat stuff. As well a lot of 'name dropping' of who they know over at Google.
These are just my observations as I dip a TOE in the mainstream stuff. It's a lot different than a lot of the adult boards.
