Anyone ever been to Jamaica?

I'm thinking of taking a lil vacation soon and I've been thinking bout the land of JAH. How is it as far as tourist and safety?

I REALLY want to check out the ghetto's of Kingston... But I hear those guys hijack and jack tourist from there life to soul.

Anyone ever been there? How was it?

if you go to kingston, you won't be having much of a vacation. You don't need to be in some Jamaican ghetto shithole to enjoy authentic Jamaica. But if you do go, and live, post pics.

Well, I'd recommend checking out Negril. It's very friendly and safe for tourists, plus you get the Jamaica feel.

I'm good friends with Eek-A-Mouse (reggae legend from Kingston) and he portrayed Kingston not a good place to visit, not safe. Of course, I'm white, so I'd have a harder time fitting in with the rude boys. But still, I've been to Negril a few times and I'd go back a few more. Check out Ted Shroom Boom for some cake, tea and other goodies, tell him I said hello.

I've also got a guy (Judge) that can drive you around and get you anyting you need mon. He's a great guy and will look out after you for your whole trip. Let me know if you go there and I'll find his cell number for you.

Kingston has some nice areas but overall- you want to go to Ochos Rios, MOntego Bay or Negril

I went a couple of years ago, I was in Montego Bay it was safe. I was told to stay on rhe main roads, you still get approached. People trying to sell weed etc. Just be cool and people are cool with you.

Hey Mon go to Negril.
Get a hotel in the Cliffs (the Blue Castle is cool). It is a taxi ride from the beach (5 bucks), but you will get a real feel for the people of the city....plus less tourists. It is also much cheaper than the beach.

Kingston....well last time I was there they about 50 guys laying on the hot concrete with machine guns. Trust me there is nothing to see there. It is dangerous. They have guided tours that will take you into the ghetto....but I would be leary. What is to stop them from asking for more money or kicking you out of the jeep?

Montego Bay....careful of the Montego Hustle. Unless you are at a resort with kids, lame.

Ochos Rios...relaxing.

As soon as you get off the plane, your trip will consist of nothing but people selling you dope, art, lobsters, etc. This drives most people crazy. Remember, these people are poor. What would you do? Just put your guard down. If you can give them a buck....do it. They need way more than you.

buy a spliff from your cabbie and relax....so jah seh.

I've been there a handful of times. Stay clear of Kingston if it's about pure tourism.
You're better off staying in Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, or Negril.

i've never been there, but one of my friends took his honey moon there about two years ago. said it was a great time, just don't leave the resorts.

i went on a 7 day cruise there.

as soon as i got off, i copped an once of weed for $50. partied a few hours and went back to the ship. you could smell weed all over the ship. lol

had lots of fun. just becareful and use common sense.

I concur Negril was a good time....theres 7 miles of tourist beach.
You'll get asked alot if you wanna buy anything.
I recomend asking for Clinton he was a cool guy.
If you stay in the tourist area its not bad, but once you cross the street the people get alot less friendly

I had the best time in Negril, while others thought I wasn't being interactive (Tanker, Steve, etc) I personally enjoyed sitting on my patio smoking a joint watching the waves. I slept and just enjoyed the relaxation.

Next time I go which is soon ... hopefully next year or the year after, we'll do more adventurous stuff like cliff diving and such.

I did get to enjoy the finer things of Jamaica ... ie: the weed and mushrooms. I'm pretty sure at one point birds were pulling the moon through the sky. ; )
