All the data will still be on the drive. For a drive to fail it probably means the motor has died. A data recovery person could get your data back easy.
I've had to do that at work before.
Also I've saved all the data off a formatted drive. It would be very difficult to completely lose all your data unless the drive has been physically damaged.

Well replacing a harddrive in an emergency situation like this should not take longer than an hour. Thats more than enough time to replace the faulty drive and reload a backup or setup a new OS.
For the future i would consider RAID or even better to have a second server in place. Make a incremental backup to it couple of times daily set a low ttl for your dns entries and if something happens you can just switch to the backup server while the main one is being fixed.Comment
