Surprised To Hear This From Los Angeles Officials

After seeing the poor planning from these two hurricane disasters, Bush has ordered Homeland Security to review the emergency management and evacuation plans for every major metro area in the USA.

Los Angeles officials conceded they don't have proper plans for a mass evacuation or shelter for those who are left homeless by an earthquake or terrorist attack.

I think it goes beyond Federal problems, and also includes blunders at the state and local level clearly as well.

The bottom line after seeing what really happens when major disasters strike is that you are completely on your own for at least 3 to 5 days.

          yes and no ,

if local and state are so badly prepared the feds should know this without being informed

ie , they should be checking if they are prepared, the fact that they dont makes it their responsibility

And I think the biggest unfactored kink in every single plan is the civil disorder, looting, and anarchy like conditions that inevitably happen when law enforcement command, control and communication systems fail.

Is this some recent revelation to you or something? Seriously. They have been telling us to have earthquake preparation kits with enough water and food for at least 3 days, along with batteries, transistor radios, foul weather gear for at least 20 years.

When my kids were in elementary school we had to provide the school with minature earthquake packs containing a change of clothes and some snack food and drinks that were to be kept in waterproof/plastic bags and held on to by the school for the entire school year.

As far as an evacuation, I sure hope you are kidding. If every person in LA got in their car at the same time no one would go anywhere. It has been that way for 40 years.

In my pantry I have extra ammunition, food for two people for ~ two weeks, Water for two people and three dogs for ~ two weeks and a first aid kid.

Let me tell you this, any person that doesn't plan for themselves and thinks they're getting the dog's water has got another thing coming. Hence the extra ammunition.

People in general need to start taking more responsibility for their own survival too, in the event of a disaster. Properly storing some basic things like non-perishable food, a knife, can opener, warm clothes, all-weather gear, water-proof matches, candles, water, maybe a few flares, some tools, a shovel, a flashlight and batteries etc etc.

In some situations it would be nice to have a gun and ammo on hand.

Nothing wrong with being ready to look after yourself and your own family rather than leaving everything up to the government and the charity of others.
