Never thought I'd be so sad to win 5K

All started St Patrick's weekend. I had a really good night and was feeling really lucky, so I decided to hit the casino (i've gambled a total of two times in the last two years)... Hit the blackjack table with $80 Canadian... I worked that 80 bucks pretty good because before I know it I'm playing $300 hands of blackjack and doubling down -- and winning!

When I first got in I was basically planning on cashing out when I was up $100...

Anyways now i'm in the 4 figures... 1k, 2k, 3k and kept bouncing up and down until I was up 7k... I decided to take some serious risks, got down to 4k then jumped up to $11,800 at my peak... at which point I call it quits...

Next day I get a call from the casino... they convinced me to go back and gamble some more and they insured my losses by 20%...

Anywho, long story short I walked with $4800 Canadian.

Not bad for starting with 80 bucks but I'm still pissed

Oh well, that's gambling for ya... I wouldn't have gotten that high without taking some major risks in the first place but damn it sucks to have gotten so high and then losing it... honestly I would have been so much happier now if I would have just lost that 80 bucks and been done with it.

Anyways even though I managed to walk with about 5k I still feel like the casino won.

Oh well, that's the end of my rant

Yes, actually it was less than 10 hours since I walked till they called me. And they even had the nerve to call me AGAIN to invite me to some stupid invite only "VIP Elite Blackjack Tournament" where the top five players will win 30k... fuck them

That's the casino's job. The hire people whose solo purpose is to hassle winners until they come back.

Sorry about the loss but $80->$5,000 is still an insanely nice profit for one night. $11k would of been better but I understand how it goes when you feel unstoppable.

yep, exactly... i felt somewhat invincible... and i rationed it by saying hell if I walk out with 80 bucks i break even

It's more of a pride thing... I feel embarrassed about what happened.

I've gotten comped quite a few times in casinos, and i've never heard of a 20% insurance on losses, especially in blackjack where an optimal playing strategy only makes 0.5% as a house advantage.

yeah, but the problem is i'm looking at it as the glass being half empty. If I worked it up to the 5k, or even if i ended up quitting while up $500 I still would have been very happy...

There are people with worse problems in the world, and I'm already well over this...

The least I could have possibly walked out with, even if I lost everything would have been about $2300 since my losses were insured by 20%...

In my eyes the house still won in this case though

I am going to call complete bullshit on this one... Not on the amounts you wagered or won... But just on the simple fact that there are laws in Ontario that do not allow casino's to aggressively target you and call you up on the phone when you won $10k to get you back into the casino.

Maybe in Vegas but not in Ontario.
