Anybody networked Vista with XP yet over wireless?....

Im fucked if I can get it to work......

The comps are all on the same wireless router and the wireless internet works OK, but when I try to set it up a LAN it just shows the Ethernet card that is unplugged.

Surely MS didnt make it so you cant just share a folder between XP and Vista over wireless?

Any ideas before I throw a perfectly good laptop out the window?

I tried and gave up! Very frustrating but I guess this is one way to get us to upgrade all machines to Vista. Contrary to what many have claimed, I do not have any apps or hardware not working on Vista. Everything basically worked straight out the gate; with the exception of Vista - XP networking of course.

Having said that, I can't seem to install quicktime ... but I hardly ever use it, I just need it installed so that video editing suite works.

    ...

Hmmm... I got my new laptop with Vista a few weeks ago and never had problems to connect to the machines running XP in our network over wireless.

Did your wireless router have a USB port? - that what it keeps telling me - or reconfigure the router manually to get it working, but that disables the Internet.

I am even thinking about downgrading the new laptop to XP.

We don't have a wireless router here but an access point connected to a hub and I didn't have to change any settings. I can access other XP machines whether they are using LAN or WLAN and whether I use LAN or WLAN on my Vista machine. No problems at all.

Yep - no problem with Ethernet - its just the damn wireless.

Bloody MS - I will be damned if I am going to upgrade another 3 machines to Vista just to use a network that should work out of the box.

I will try for the VPN approach - if that dosnt work then I am going for a refund. Fuck MS!!!
