How many of you have been in a hurricane? I have been in 3, and you know what they really are not as bad as they seem. The only reason there is all this hype is because how fucked up everyone got in NO.

In a coastal condo, on an island?
I know what you are saying, but damn, I think an island condo calls for evacuation. That is serious power on the way.

Yeah for sure I am not saying I would want to stay but I know when Hugo came through here I don't think any of the condos right on the water had any serious structural damage, interestingly enough the majority of them have these covers on the patios that you can lock up lol. Now of course on an island there is no telling.

Here is what I don't get. Why would you want to be in a place without electricity?
On an island, my fear would be flooding.

The one thing I hate after all this is the hype about hurricanes all of a sudden....its like the new big fad with the news and just about everyone else.

Yea, it was novelty value at first, but ya soon get bored dismantling boxes/network and storing the shit everytime a TS comes along.
With speeds of around 150 mph and the storm surge when buildings ain't constructed to handle that, it can get out of hand and dangerous. On low-lying ground - forget it!
On two hurricanes it was *very* damned strange to have the eye overhead and the whole place peaceful and the sun shining, but 20 mins later that ended and back to wind and water!

I felt the exact same way, until 1992 and Andrew reared his evil head
Then for many years we skated by with a slew of 'light' hurricanes. We all got callious and went back to our listless expectations of the late summer storms. Until last year, when the active cycle seemed to wake from hibernation (1940-1960 was the last active cycle the atlantic experienced). I supose i hope people learn from the awful trajedy katrina caused. If it means erroring on the side of caution, heck so be it.

on the frikkin ocean with a chance of a category 5 storm coming right at you. You have to be an idiot to stick around. Anything category 1 or more I leave my home for a resort atleast if not out of the area (when I lived in florida, moved recently)
