                  Civil libertarians call the checks thinly veiled race and class discrimination against people who have suffered already. The checks are made on those evacuated or forced to seek help from charities or others ? in other words, people who are often black and poor.
                  Next order of business: conduct background check of all the "civil libertarians" who opened their mouths trying to make it an issue of race descrimination.

                          don't believe everything you read.. especially if it's on Fox news. I know a guy that is running one of the Texas shelters and he commented on this article. This was his exact quote:

                          Let me tell you something. We did this here in the Lubbock shelter, and no one had a problem with it. They screened everyone as they came through, and weeded out anyone who had outstanding records. They also drug and bomb dog sniffed their bags for drugs, bombs, guns, and what not. Then they went into a pat down. Then went in to be checked for criminal history. They were taking out child molesters or anyone with a violent history.

                          Of the people they pulled out, were 2 rapests. Thats it. Everyone else had a clean rap sheet. In order to get housing in this area, they had to go through ANOTHER criminal background check. We made damn sure that we had good people here...

                              In South Carolina, state police checked every evacuee flown there by the government. Of 547 people checked, 301 had criminal records, according to Robert Stewart, state Law Enforcement Division Chief.

                              The state police in West Virginia said roughly half of the nearly 350 Katrina victims evacuated by the government to that state had criminal records, and 22 percent have a history of committing a violent crime.

                                  Criminal convictions in a police state is like counting flies on flypaper. If ya were to judge the US based on the percentage of those who had criminal convictions. - you'd want to seal the borders and not let em out.

                                  I can't remember the exact figure, but there is more than a fair chance any US citizen will have a criminal record in his/her lifetime.
