President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is an idiot

How can Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva let his people live in poverty? It's sickening. This idiot needs to be kicked out of office immediately.

"The Brazilian government reported in September that 20 million people were living on a $1 a day in 2002, roughly on a par with Uganda, where 80 percent of the population lives in misery.
The World Bank estimates that about 8 million people in Brazil live on $1 a day."

It's so sad... why don't the peole in this country wake up and do something? I guess they are all sheep.

Brazil is the epicenter of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in South America and accounts for 57 percent of all AIDS cases in Latin America and the Caribbean.

This president does nothing for this country. I can't believe how stupid he is.

Why did you idiots vote for him?

This reminds me of the Republican talking point that it's ok for us to torture people because Saddam did it and we're not NEARLY torturing people as bad as he did.

Are all conservatives stupid or does it just seem that way?

1$ a day ought to be enough for anyone.
The previous Brazilian presidents were even worse.

yah I'm the sheep who votes for a 'conservative' president who runs a HUGE deficit and intervenes in the affairs of sovereign nations for no discernible reason.

I'm the sheep who parrots family values politicians who always turn out to be junkies, wifebeaters, criminals and gamblers.

I'm the sheep who believes people who talk about how precious our freedoms are while they sign legislation taking it away.

I'm the sheep who votes for PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES a 'cowboy' born into an old-money connecticut family with absolutely no record of ever managing anything successfully in his entire life.

I'm the sheep who idolizes people who talk about going to war all the time but either dodge military service or outright go AWOL.

                  I'm the sheep?

                        Something else for you:

Just because the Brazilians have a corrupt govt. doesn't mean it's ok for OUR govt. to be corrupt.

Just because Saddam tortured people doesn't mean it's ok for OUR govt. to torture people.

Just because the terrorists are scary doesn't make it ok to take away OUR civil liberties.

                        Capeesh?

No, I'm not and that's not the case.

If you knew a little about Brazil's history before you run your mouth, you'd know Brazil has been run by the right party for dozens of years. They're the ones who got the poors poorer and the riches richier, while they run the country for their and their friends' interests.

Lula got the house in a mess and he's doing his best to get things going. It's NOWHERE close to what it was supposed to be, sure, but it's getting there. He has done more than the others already.

The really sad thing about all of this is that Dickovitch isn't listening. Conservatives don't particularly care if they're on the correct side of an argument or not. Their idea of winning a debate isn't to show that their ideas are superior, it's whether or not they can shout the other side down. They're not worried about whether the policies of the politicians they support are effective, they don't really give a fuck about govt.

All they care about is that the 'people who jest think they're soooooo smart' i.e. highly educated people, aren't in charge anymore. They're being put in their place. They want to live in a world where God isn't mocked without fear of physical retribution, white people don't have to mix with non-whites, gays stay in the closet and all the trains run on time without ever taking a penny of taxes from the rich people. They live in a fucking fantasy world.

Good, responsible govt. is the least of their concerns.

All these supposedly "leftist" presidents are the same.Loook at Chavez. He`s taking our country to a ruin fast. The corruption is worse than before and there is more unemployment and more poor people.
The thing is these "leftist" kids abroad, living in their comfy suburban homes think its cool to worship Che Guevara and shit.
Try living in one of these countries for a while.See how you like it.

I think people should keep their politics talk to a minimum on a business board. Also, I think people should only talk about the politics of THEIR countries, unless they know more than CNN and some other news media tells.

The Brazilian government sucks. But IMHO the American Goverment and canadian and many others do too, in many ways. Of course, Brazilians are in a much worse shape than the Americans. Its not something you can compare at all. But what makes the scenario this way is not really the government in my opinion. The problem for us is that we have been a colony where the goal of our colonists was to pile as much money as possible. This stayed alive through business. Companies from all over the world come here, make their profit and send money back to their country. This is Brazil´s #1 problem. If you add the bad politicians - you have the current scenario.

Now... I really think people should not be saying things about other people´s country, unless there´s a business reason for it.

I do my part. I voted for who I think was the best option. I pay my taxes, employ people and pay them a good wage. I bring money to my country and I don´t talk about other people´s issues, because HELLO, nobody knows whats the reality until you are INTO that scenario.

Thats my two cents on the subject.

                                    Regards,

                                      Right on, Bruno...
I can`t count how many times I`ve heard misinformed kids from outside Venezuela, praising Chavez just because they`ve seen some piece on the news or because they saw some propaganda paid for by the venezuelan government. (The Revolution will not be televised for example)
I`m in no way a Bush lover BTW, far from it.Apparently some people think that if you are against these so called leftist governments you are a right wing conservative.

If you look at any country.. there is corruption everwhere at various levels. When ya look at smaller countries, this becomes more transparent. However, that smaller country is a micocosm of larger nations - there is little difference!

BTW Mr Dickovitch... who was it that laid out a plan for the South America economies and guided them along a route which subsequently ended in disaster? They were fooled once, but doubt that will happen again.

If you try to even discuss about the brazilian problems you will be amazed how far it can goes. People can do masters at university just discussing it. The only positive part of your colocation, in my opinion, point to the urgent need of doing something fast. I walk through the streets at São Paulo and I have seen many places closing doors, many crime around, people that get poor and poor everyday ...

I wished to do something to change and Lula´s also I think, but for a huge pack of strategic reasons that includes strong politics, bad justice, violence, etc etc, the sistem is cristalized and pointing to negative entropy and 1 person, even the president, can´t do anything alone to change that status.

About that million people hungry , I have to say: they are all around, in pain, sometimes stealing in large packs, or just living a healthless life in a dark scrub of São Paulo or Rio. Its sad. Good part of them are very pacific and work with small services to survive for food, even less; and they don´t steal, don´t kill, keep happy, go to carnival ...

The part that I agree with youis a needing of "wake ip" that the brazilian people needs, for lots of things. We have to find our way out and I´m doing everything I can to make it happen. ;)

Brazil is poor for the same reasons the Phlippines is poor: bad government economic policies, meddling Catholic Church, and a "latinized" culture of dependency.

Bad government policies: Brazil, like the Phlippines, has huge social spending programs but few if any of the money gets to the people due to corruption/waste. Even if the funds trickle to the people it just fosters and bolsters the problem of #3 below. The BEST thing they can do is to cut subsidies, eliminate certain tax brackets, and lower taxes overall. It would also help if there is free trade... let the country specialize in its own low cost core competencies and import the rest.

Catholic Church: Im not sure about the Brazilian bishops, but in the Philippines, separation of Church and state is a sham. The Catholic church influences key initiatives like birth control and family planning. Result: high birthrates which results in heavy competition for resources.

Culture of Dependency: The Phlippines and Brazil share the same "Latin" colonization. A few elites come in and divide the land into fiefdoms with the natives being subservient to the elites and their priest enablers/apologists. The colonial elites may be gone now but the mentality still remains... ie., all help, all resources come from the top or from the center. People are raised to "hope" and depend on people at the top or the central government. People are not raised to help themselves. People are not raised to praise themselves when they do something right nor blame themselves when something goes wrong. The culture of dependency easily perverts into the victimhood or passive mentality. Whatever scraps of social spending make it to the poor (as a bribe for votes) just reinforces this dependency. Maybe part of the reason America, Japan, and Germany are so successful is that they put the onus of success on the individual not on some amorphous "they" or "outsider".

Sorry for the daily rant. I live in the Phlippines and am Filipino. But I grew up in and am a citizen of the United States so I have an interesting experience of both systems.

Well, Chavez has already been in the government for 7 years and I can`t see any change. He controls the parliament, the judicial system and the electoral system.I don`t see anything holding him back from actually doing something for this country. He`s had it pretty easy in running the country.

I won't say that Brazil doesn't have a lot of problems, yes it does, but you probably heard some news and think you can judge something. It's not that easy to solve all the problems here and maybe you should learn some culture before start duscussing it, there's a fucking historical backgrounf behind it.
