After I saw what they were doing in the shelters down here in Mississippi I stopped telling people they should contribute to the Red Cross and just come on down and help out instead - they are so huge and have more rules than the US govt - all designed to NOT HELP. Contributions to them are a waste of money.
They're in Mississippi and Alabama giving out $320 per person per household as a 1 time gift. Tell your source to fucking leave and go where they are if they want in on the $$$.

Can you fucking read? or where you born this fucking stupid?
I wonder how much they skimmed off of the donations? I heard a while ago that 40% is skimmed off the top. That's why I'm so skeptical about donating to charities, even reputable ones like the Red Cross. I like to know the money is actually being used to help and not being hoarded by Lord knows who. *SiGH*

Q: Hurricane Katrina: Why is the Red Cross not in New Orleans?
A: Access to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders.
The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.
The Red Cross has been meeting the needs of thousands of New Orleans residents in some 90 shelters throughout the state of Louisiana and elsewhere since before landfall. All told, the Red Cross is today operating 149 shelters for almost 93,000 residents.
