    Cable/DSL bandwidth surcharges?

How many of you use a cable/dsl provider that limits your gigs downloaded per month/week or day?

If so what is your overage rate, & what kind of bill do you get at the end of the month?

Do you think this type of surcharge will last, & do you think people will actually pay for this bullshit?

What are your views on the future of premium bandwidth charges for highspeed users?

I dont think the average user goes over the 5 gig limit some companies have in place its mostly people running kaza 24/7 or warez kiddies on irc. So the limits dont piss off 99% of people and the companies dont care if the top 1% users leave.

I have dls at home and a t1 at the office i only use my dsl 2-3 days a week but i do have unlimited bandwith for $30 a month i doubt i go over 1 gig a month.

What about people that listen to legal advertising supported streaming radio stations?

What about webmasters that download 20-30 gigs of content per week?

What about linux geeks that download 5 gigs for every new release they want?

What about people that download legal music from mp3.com?

What about pay-per-download music sites that are coming out?

What about pay-per-download movie site's that allow you to rent online?

What about the guy that wants to check out all the movies at www.atomfilms.com?

I mean...i just don't see your logic...fill me in please....

No. Limits on bandwidth will disappear entirely at some point.

I have earthlink DSL, no caps. If they ever start capping I'm with AMP, fuck 'em, there are plenty of providers who don't. If came to it I'd buy fractional T1 or a business DSL line to avoid caps.

I thought I remembered an article posted here about a cable company developing a modem so they will be able to charge bandwidth on a tiered type system, but I cant find it.

I suspect people using big bandwidth with a cable modem will be charged more than 44.95 a month in the not so far away future.

To avoid that very thing I had DSL insalled by Verizon, but I used a small local company for my ISP.

No limits and no monitoring of any kind.

Back in the day I had my account with Earlink cancled because I was using it too much. Even though their contract said "unlimited connect" they felt that I was online more than humanly possible (which was about 16-18 hours per day). ;)
Sorry, no signature today. Please come back tomorrow.

Yea i remember when earthlink used to do that, they don't do it anymore though. And they never cancelled me because i'd always call & speak directly to a supervisor, who realized very quickly i'd show up outside their office if they didn't stfu.

                      Cock sucking penny pinchers.

Easton...a few cents a meg!?!?! Who the fuck in their right mind would charge people per meg? What isp do you use?

Thats fucking bullshit if you ask me. I've downloaded double that in less than a day before.
