I like my Canon 20D ok, has a CMOS chip, and like every camera you become aware of what it's minor imperfections are. I like a real punchy velvia look with tack-sharpness. So I wind up having to play with color rendition parameters sometimes. And some post process sharpening. What I have liked about the Nikon is the increase in percieved sharpness due to the CCD chip and nikkor lens but with some fringing and blooming as a negative side effect.
Here's a review of the 20D. And if you get it at least get 1 "L" lens you won't regret it!

Nikon has issued a service advisory for the D2H, D70 and N55 (F55) SLRs, which relates to the potential failure of certain components within the camera. In the case of the D2H this can lead to exposure and auto focus errors, in the case of the D70 the camera can completely lock up.
