Unfortunately back then it was also allowed to force not only the kids - but the teachers to say the pledge - and one state even fined their teachers if they didnt say it - it went to the supreme court and they said it was ok to fine the teachers - then they reversed after a few years and said that they cant "force" people to say it.
When this case theyre talking about now came to the supreme court back I think in 2002 - the Supreme Court said it was ok to say that in the pledge and threw out the caseComment
