did your high school have a dress code?

and do you believe that dress codes work? not neccesarily uniforms, but strict dress codes where a student can wear certain things certain ways...

Not really...just couldn't wear shorts outside of PE class.
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60. Let me repeat... A 120 x 60 button and no more that 3 lines of DEFAULT SIZE AND COLOR text.

We had a very strict one (private Epicopalian school). I really wish we had uniforms and wish my son's school did too. Honestly I think they're great.

nope. graduated in 99. im sure its gotten worse since then.

well we did, but nothing bad. they rarely made people change or leave, unless it was alcohol related.

turn it inside out theyd say.

and no hats inside, but i dont consider that anything severe./

Only rule we had was skirts and shorts couldn't be more than 4 inches above the top of your kneecap. And of course, no curse words or vulgar pictures on t-shirts.

i went to private school up to grade 6, it was uniforms. i found it better, cause you knew what you were going to wear each day. but school after that didnt really have a dress code.

Yes there was a dress code, but it wasn't very strict. No spaghetti straps or shorts shorter then a hand-length from the knee. No hats or bandannas. Thats about it.

I graduated in 1989 we had a dress code that said no shirts that said anything bad, or had ads for booze, tobacco or drugs. You couldn't wear sleaveless shirts or tank tops. shorts had to be no shorter than 1in above the knee. They enforced it pretty stricktly. there were a lot of girls that got sent home for wearing skirts that were too short.

I live about 5 miles from a high school now and have to drive past it when I go just about anywhere and from time to time I'll be driving by when school just got out. The guys all seem to have baggy ass pants that hang down to their knees and the girls all look like strippers. Many schools are afraid to have a dress code these days because they fear that they will be sued by parents.

                                      It's crazy.

Had a unifrom, but on top of that strict rules. One earring per ear, one ring per finger, no makeup, hair ties had to be black, navy or white, skirts had to be no more than 2 inches above the knee, jackets had to be blazers, trench coats or duffle coats, all navy, etc etc. I could go on for hours. Not to mention that if we had a field trip or something and could wear normal clothes, no jeans were ever allowed as they were the devil spawn.

Yup had a dress code and for me personally it didn't work. I hated all the bs that came along with it. Had to act in such and such a way - wear your socks upto your knees, shirt tucked in tie on properly blah blah. It turned school into a real pain in the ass.

not really any dresscodes that you had to wear certain clothes or colors. Just nothing with nudity or bad language.

Only one did, the all boys catholic high school I went to for 9th grade only in the SFV (Notre Dame) back in the early 80s. It was the last year of being strictly an all boys school before it went coed the following year. I'm not sure how things changed, but compared to the other 2 high schools I went to (North Hollywood and Polytechnic) it was leaps and bounds ahead of them as far as academic expectancies and standards. I got a rough equivalent when I ended up at Poly and they put me in all Academically Enriched or Honors classes, but the average schmuck classes were substandard to say the least.

It was sad that had I never had exposure to private schools I would have been left in those average classes that were beyond NOT challenging as so many kids are today.

It seemed to be true that teachers in private school and in accelerated classes in public schools had WAY more control over the classroom which obviously leads to better products (fairly educated people)

                                                          :/

I don't have a problem with dress codes in school since offices also implement such policy.

If trousers had belt loops, you must wear a belt. Shirts must be tucked in trousers. No T shirts. Pretty much same rules with females. No pants outfits for girls either. No logos of any kind on shirts, jackets, etc. The only trouble in school were the typical "bullies." Usually some big fat fuck that was bigger than everyone else or a group of jerks pushing their way through the crowds on campus. But that was it. That was my high shcool years, 1960 - 63.
