It seems you have no experience in sales or marketing - but hey everyone has to learn at a point so lemme tell you in a few sec.
EVERY sale is built like this. In or outside the industry. Adult or selling Oreos.
consumerprice = resellerprice / profit
Theres always a 2nd layer. Youre producing, webmaster are REselling and consumers are buying. So yes that pizzaguy delivers pizza thats made from tomatoes who are grown and resold and profit added. The pizzaplace makes the pizza, he delivers and you pay the consumerprice. So the $10 is already in the pizza.
If youre trying to skip a step and offer a lower profit for the reseller aka webmaster, there must be a valid reason for this. You could have a unique product for instance. But you dont. What you have is the most difficult situation. Selling a new product to an existing market consumer.
Trust me the 40% is not gonna work. Unless you are going to offer something that noone else has. If you do hit me up Im sure there are tons of people here whod love to invest in that.

From your pizza analogy, you are looking at all wrong. Lets say out of that $20 pizza, the total costs to make it including labor come out to $6. Then you turn around and pay out $10 to someone to market and sell it for you and deliver it which leaves you $4 in net profit. Your choice is to pay out $8 to the marketer/seller and increase your margin to $6. In the end you can move 100 pizzas a month and make your $600 net profit, or you can sell 1000 pizzas and make $4000 (1000 x $4) net profit. Its all about total profit dollars.
The only reason you would be stuck with having to pay out 40% is because either you are being greedy on what you think you should make on each sale or those who produced your content and designed your site are asking for too large of a chunk and not leaving much left over for you. You need to think about the big picture rather than just profit per sale. Your pizza analogy falls apart because the cost price of a new membership is not a large portion of the signup price. A few more hits on your server, and an increase in the average support emails by maybe 0.1 emails per month.
You can pay 50%, still be fussy, and make more money than if you continue offering 40%. Remember, affiliates choose to promote you, not the other way around. Some will not even consider joining for 40%.Comment

truth is, IF this is a solo model site building on personal contact with the surfer there is only so much original content that can be created.
and if this original content is very special you do not need an affiliate program to make best ROI.
so disregard much of this nonsense about affiliate program. you are not bangbros shooting tons of new content all the time---you are a boutique site.
suggest no affiliates, and very original unique content and high membership price.
the key is IF you have unique original content---if you do, do not water it down with the affiliate business model, especially if YOU are the content.Comment
