Content Piracy - What to do?

    Hi guys,

last week we noticed that other paysites using our own produced and licensed content. I stumpled over at by browsing some paysites and looking through the updates of that sites.

Does anybody has any experience with that, or can somebody suggest a suitable lawfirm.
How big is the probability to get those guys, even if they are located in countries like Israel, Turkey...

    Thanks for your help!

I dunno, I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV. He did ask if anyone knew of a suitable lawfirm, and I would feel good about trusting Chad's legal advice.

not yet, maybe the site owners are not the fuckers..
they could also bought the content from a much bigger fucker,
but on USC 2257 the site owner apears as "producer"

Paul Berra of http://Berra.org (tell him you were referred from XPays at GFY). And enforcement CAN and DOES work world-wide. We have successfully enforced in many countries, including valid service of lawsuits and successful preemptory dmca notices for starters...

the surest way to ensure your content will be pirated is to do nothing

what are the probabilities? will you just get them to take off our content, or will they also have to pay our layer costs and a compensation?

You have to find a lawyer from the country that the paysite is in. I might try sending a cease and desist letter first from a local lawyer.

Cheapest option is to start out sending a DMCA yourself.
If the thieves dont act upon it, maybe its time to have a lawyer send them a nasty letter, then after that.....

But, wouldnt waste all your money before the free approach had been tried.

a lawyer who understands digital content piracy and enforcement anywhere in the world is better than a local lawyer (in my non-lawyer opinion)

You can also send DMCA notices to everyone involved: The site, it's host, the bandwidth / connectively provider to that host, the registrar, ICANN itself, etc. If any of those companies have a US base of operations, they must follow DMCA, or be liable as a result. None of the deeper pocket companies will want to be on the hook for some dipwad in Turkey stealing your content.
