From what I've been reading the Salvation Army is the only major one that doesn't pay out large salaries to their staff.

The red cross pays out $175 Million a year to their executives and staff.

this is a fact and was investigated by the GAO. SO when you try to state who is profiting off the blood of others make sure you put Bush in there also. Bush was scared to go to war himself but he is awful tough when its time to send others.

Invading iraq overall was not a bad thing, how bush went about it, to stretch it out so he and his friends could profit off it is the problem - oh ya and the lies, why all the lies, if it was worth doing then it was worth telling the truth about why we invaded.

Love him or hate him. Believe his message or not. Michael Moore has every right to say what he does and make us all feel uncomfortable for not being more compassionate, thoughtful, and holding ALL politicians accountable.

He blindsides Bush and the Republicans because they are such a easy targets, as was General Motors and the Columbine Shootings. Whether we agree or not, we should listen, critically examine his argument, and if found valid, take appropriate action.

To do otherwise is to undervalue and not live up to our responsibilities as an American citizens. Blindly quoting conservative or liberal scripture shows a lack of understanding of the issues at hand. Don't let political hacks do your thinking, take the initiative and be your own person. I meant it more in the context of normal people flipping out and stockpiling potted meat and ammunition. We need more people like Michael Moore. Not because of the points of view that he represents, but because he succeeds in making millions of people think about topics that usually only get their attention in the event of a hurricane, a terrorist attack, or school killings.

I don't care which part of the political spectrum you represent, you cannot in all seriousness argue that our country, our world for that matter, could not be vastly better than it is. The barrier to progress is not that the Republicans and their friends have their snouts deep in the trough, nor that the Democrats might destroy the American way of life by turning the US into a giant welfare state. The real barrier is apathy: not only the obvious disinterest in the political process of those who do not even vote; but the superficiality of those who claim to have an opinion.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the United States had the highest job-related fatality rate of any industrialized nation. Most workers worked 10-12 hours a day but earned up to 40% less than the minimum deemed necessary for a decent life. The number of children in the work force had doubled during the closing decades of the 19th century.

An hundred years later, in many respects the picture isn't a whole lot better, yet the Republicans are busy striking down what remains of the labor and anti-trust legislation that was created back then. Approve or disapprove, no-one voted for them to do that because it wasn't part of their election platform. Instead, people voted to express their disapproval of abortion or their support for the war in Iraq. And if such legislation were being proposed today, it would surely be decried as socialist or left-wing or at the very least, liberal, yet most of that legislation was created under Republican presidents.

The fundamental difference between then and now is that presidents such as Roosevelt existed in a society exposed to writers like Mark Twain and later to such as Upton Sinclair, Theodore Dreiser and Lincoln Steffens. Daily newspapers and popular magazines carried incisive articles about trusts, finance, impure foods and abusive railroad practices: not the pap which today's media feeds us. Thus farmers whose grandchildren are today voting Republican, belonged to militant organisations and Kansas City had a branch of the Socialist Party big enough to produce its own newspaper.

However, the specifics are not the point. The point is that we had a thriving democracy which in turn meant we had reform, genuine reform going on in full public view. Today we live in a society which throws around terms like "left" and "right" without understanding what they mean, and with even less idea as to what its government - Republican or Democrat - is actually doing.

Worse, much worse, is most of us don't care and that above all is why we need Michael Moore and others like him, no matter what position they represent.
