I have to laugh at this AdnerAdvertising guy quoting these rankings.
The U.S have never had a strong international football team. Over the years they have had some decent players playing in our premiership but internationally they are not strong and I`m not convinced they ever will be because of the nature of the game.
I remember in one of the international tournaments a few years back, the U.S supporters in the crowd cheered their team whenever the ball was pumped forward from defence which was quite laughable.
England internationally are not a decent outfit right now but the English league is as strong as any in world football.Comment

Man, the US has made some significant strides in the last 5 or so years, but they have a long way to go. FIFA rankings have been notoriously unreliable. There are teams in Europe that won't even qualify for the world cup that are better than the US. Northern Ireland has produced world renowned players such as George Best. Even Pele himself once said that George Best was the best football player he had ever seen. Name one US player who has had such kudos? Despite the FIFA rankings, Northern Ireland's team is still better than the US team. And even so, good teams lose to lesser sides all the time. Israel's group consists of France, Rep. of Ireland, Switzerland, Cyprus and Faroe Islands and Israel still has a realistic chance for qualifying (at least from the 2nd place)
