in the USA, we have a two party system, consisting of two basic ways of looking at the world... conservative and liberal. the split is roughly 50% between both views. why would you alienate 1/2 of webmasters that could make you money? who does that hurt besides yourself? no one should do business based on emotional reactions and how a few pixels on a monitor are arranged.

I would dissagree with that. Very few people are conservative all the way or follow every republican agenda and the same goes for liberal and the Democrates agenda. People themselves are a little more complex than that, or at least they should be.
Seeing others viewpoints and thoughts on such issues can be helpfull. To me it does not matter as much if people are for or against the debit cards, yet the purely racial comments do matter.


By the way whomever said "they" can not streach a dollar caught me a little off guard. Many of the actual poor earn about 8,000.00 a year. To me that is a lot of dollar streaching.

people arent taught to be poor, they choose it either by straying from school and going the thug route or by simply being happy with their current situation and the lack of responsibilities it brings.

Sure they are. Is being rich a genetic property? No. If some black kid grows up in an area full of poor people he sure isn't going to get taught how to be rich. That's not to say he can't LEARN how to not be poor and to not make the same mistakes his family and neighbros have made. Like I said it's not genetic so it can be changed, but the facts are the poor people were tauhgt to be poor.

i dont believe thats true... from a pure behavioral perspective, we are also conditioned by our upbringing, the lessons we are taught and learned (be they good or bad), the examples we had set for us by our parents and our peers and so on. there are a variety of factors that strongly influence what kind of person we turn out to be and as such, what kind of decisions we will be likely to make. for the most part, we tend to emulate our parents or that parent which had the strongest influence on us. even more, we will almost always find a mate and have a relationship that is identical to that which are parents had when we were growing up. generally speaking, we will become our parents.

everything is possible however and there are exceptions and it's obviously a complex issue with a multitude of factors that matter. but i would say that as a general rule, if a person is living below the poverty level during the time they raised a child from birth to 18, they are pretty much going to insure that child will be poor as well. as a general rule, a poor person will not teach their child to be rich or financially well off. there are always exceptions and we always like to find a reason to call "bullshit" but i believe the general rule holds true.

the rich don't get richer and the gap between rich and poor does not grow in the way people like to suggest or claim it does. thats just a economic and mathematical fact. wealth is always distributed in a very even and consistent way in every mature, free market economy. if it is a fairly static distribution of wealth... then one has to ask, "what is going on here... why is that". being poor in my opinion is a vicious cycle just like child abuse will result in an adult who will likely be abusive, the lessons learned by being surrounded by poor people are always the same "lifes not fair", "no one cares about us", "life is a long, hard terrible struggle and no one cares about you" "rich people exploit the poor" etc etc etc.

you will not walk into a ghetto and find the predominant attitude being one of optimism and hope where everyone is telling you "hey man, you can do anything and be anything you want... all you have to do is want it bad enough and have the determination and desire to go after your dream".

Some people have created personas for themselves. However, I think that people's true colors do come out. I can say that the people I've met in person are great people even if they are a bit more outspoken on the boards.

I grow so tired of people who feel it is not their responsibility for where they are in life.

1. Role Models -> Find some
2. Education -> Get one
3. Money Management -> Learn

If you have no one to look up to, no education, and can not manage $1 you will go no where.

Want to continue to create generations of poor:

1. Abandon your children
2. Prop up scum as role models
3. Disregard education
4. Promote consumerism (NO money management)
5. Encourage reliance
6. Tolerate degenerate behavior


I would venture to say most on this board came from shit... Broken homes, shitty neighborhoods, basic educations, etc etc. No need to disclose your resume of shit beginnings, I have my own. Did I cry, and demand Mommy help me to where I am today? Fuck no. I learned how to manage my money (something that should be taught in the schools), and I moved forward from shit jobs, to better jobs...

How can anyone in this world, point the finger of blame at anyone but themselves... if by the age of 40 they are still living in poverty. 40 being too high, but I am giving then benefit of the doubt.

they up to this point have been getting food, clothes and shelter at no expense and ive seen no such report that says anything will be changing in the near future. we know not all poor black people are alcoholic criminals. the overall numbers are probably even lower then most could even imagine. i just think all the poor deserve the same benefits but have yet to see anyone mention anyone but the black families who've been struck, as though they were "poorer" then the whites and some how deserve it more.

A lot of poor people, but not all, just don't know how to manage money properly. Knowing how to manage your money is extremely important. Even if you are doing pretty good financially, if you don't know how to save money you'll never be able to have security or be able to buy a house. I think some people don't understand this concept, my bf for example. He makes much less than me, but he is always looking for an excuse to buy new stuff and only buys the most expensive things.

If you have a free account at NY Times on-line you should really read these articles http://www.nytimes.com/pages/national/class/ It talks a lot about class in America today and how hard it is to break from poverty into the middlle class and how it usually takes more than one generation for a family to move from one class to another.

Funny thing is some of you were probably the ones in the thread yesterday bitching about the Barbara Bush comments on how some of the people in N.O. will be better off and today you are accusing them of buying booze with their cards.
