I went to high school in Plantation and depending on traffic on either the Turnpike or I-95 you're looking at a solid 40 minutes to an hour to get to Miami, although it could take longer with traffic. Are you not wanting to stay in Miami because of the price?

yeah. i want a hotel that has high speed internet and also allows pets.
and the more inexpensive the better lol. i have such a hard time justifying paying a lot of money for aplace to sleep. lol
Whenever I'm looking for a cheap hotel with high speed that allows pets I always stay at the Red Roof Inn. There is one in Ft Lauderdale and Miami, but I can't remember off the top of my head if either was in a good area.
Plantation is pretty much a bedroom community to Fort Lauderdale. It's a nice quiet suburb, but not the most exciting place to visit.
If your business is in Miami, I would recommend finding something a little closer. Weekday traffic from Plantation to Miami is usually brutal during peak hours (7am-10am & 4pm-7pm). If you know you won't be travelling during those times, the trip isn't too bad (30 minutes or so).
Cutler Ridge is really close to Coconut Grove so that area is also fine, although it might be tough to find a cheap hotel there.
IF you stay in cocunut grove, stay on the nice half, that city is really insane, you have super rich people and rich college kids, and you go 2 blocks in the wrong direction and your going to get beat down (grand ave) They shot a tourist guy asking for directions like 8 months ago there.

It's been a while since I lived there but I went to school at UM and I remember the campus being a decent area, but you go a couple streets back and you had Tamiami Trail and hookers and drug dealers everywhere. This was during the time of the serial killer that was killing hookers on Tamiami.

I had a friend a couple months back, try to walk from Sandbar (in the grove) to his place near UM, he was a dumbass and took Grand Ave.. Couple black guys pulled him in between cars and beat him up, stole his pants, shoes, socks, shirt, ring.. They left his ass bleeding and in his underwear. That neighborhood is so bad now that the ambulance didnt even wanna come, and the cops NEVER showed up.

I grew up in Plantation, Sunrise, and Coral Springs so every time I come home to visit I usually avoid Miami unless I have to. I can remember the days of seeing concerts at Miami Arena and taking the metro back to where we parked and hoping to hell not to get shot. I haven't visited campus in several years but it was already starting to get bad when I graduated in '95. Going to the UM games at the Orange Bowl was also a treat...take the metro from campus, get off and walk through a shitty neighborhood as people tried to scam you to a shuttle that took you to the stadium.
I don't know if they take pets but you could always stay st the new Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood and you'd be pretty far into south Broward. Just don't ask for the Anna Nicole Suite

The Hard Rock is nice and its right on the turnpike, so getting down into Dade county is easy. But I think she is looking for somewhere inexpensive and hard rock rooms are in the $200-$300 a night range.

Damn I'm starting to get homesick. Have you stayed at the Hard Rock yet? When I come home to visit in a few months I'm going to try to coordinate it when they have a boxing event there. I remember visiting a few years ago and driving up Sample Rd in Coconut Creek and seeing a casino and thinking "Where the fuck did that come from?"
i wasn't looking for cheap.
i was looking for inexpensive that has high speed internet access AND allows pets.
I recommend digging around on TripAdvisor.Com. I use that whenever I travel anywhere and I've found some great places that way. The user reviews will let you know if the place is a dump and what to expect.

yeah i love that site.
there have been some places that i was thinking about staying and then checked them out there and was like...OH NO! lol
pipecrew is right - stay away from the grove and actually 90% of miami - its a fucking shithole - except for the beach areas.
stay on the beachs- south beach, miami beach, hallandale, ft laud hollywood
i see mention you have a dog, damn thats tough - i know a place in hollywood that allows pets, lemme get the info, i dont know it of the top of my head
Plantation is WEST! Its just another suburban city. They have a ghetto mall, a nice mall etc...
Now if you are just getting an apartment...not reason to go there. If you are getting a house.. well that?s a different story. Plantation is a bit more spread out than most areas.
Look at Hollywood. That is a really cool city, especially the downtown...plenty of diversity too.
