Gonzo with Condoms. - Discuss, personal opinion and business profitability

Well we like filming girls from the Czech and Russia. Not too many taboos and the prices tend to be pretty good.

But....

We don't live in either of those two areas. And where we are the available talent is a far cry from what I consider "real porn talent." (Too many taboos and regardless of how many tests... they are terrified to go condomless)

So this leaves us with a problem.

We plan on starting to sell to the American market and we can't get the girls to work without a condom.

Personal opinion is that a condom does make sense. But, with regular testing and a little common sense it shouldn't be this big of an issue.

As a business opinion. I'm really not too certain. I know when I worked in L.A. that condom only girls got less work and I was always told that it was because condoms dramatically hurt sales.

So what is everyone's opinion.

My wife is a community sex educator and she loves seeing condoms in porn flicks because it spreads awareness to the general public. That doesn't have anything to do with your question, but I thought I'd mention it.

Also, you say the eastern european models have "too many taboos" and "not too many taboos" in consecutive sentences.

No.
I said we like filming girls in the Czech or Russia. Because they do not have too many taboos and are at a good price.

Then I said,

Hate condoms in gonzo content, I try to avoid buying those scenes as much as possible. Destroys the illusion of it being spontaneous, alters the suspension of disbelief.

As for it hurting sales at the surfer level, I doubt it has a large effect. But even if it's just a few percent that get turned off by it then it's not worth the risk for me. If you do use condoms, there are plenty of flesh-tone matching ones available online with no ring leftover, which allows the image to be less visibly disrupted. Something to think about.

Anyhow, I would rather let the girl pick if she wants to wear one or not rather than have to resort to picking less attractive women... its just common sense to me.

Condoms take the fantasy out of porn. When you use condoms you are reminding people of STD's and other nasty stuff. Its like watching a boxing match with head gear on.

Fuck that. I scream at the TV and Monitor when I see condoms. Porn is supposed to be a fairy tale... a different reality.

If I wanted see condoms I would walk down the street and fuck a working girl...

Condoms bring reality into a fantasy (i.e. bizz kill)

We are just slowly breaking into the Internet side of the porn market. And I'm worried about the surfers converting.

As for the video side of the coin, I can honestly say that we lose a 1/3 of our sales by even having 1 condom on an actor in 1 scene of a 5 scene video. And the bitch is after anything has been shown on the Internet I eventually want to sell it as a video.

So how about everyone that hates condoms in porn do us a big favour and flame French porn boards with this information. (Don't worry most can read or speak english and someone will eventually translate it anyway.... Trust me on this fact.)

We have taken soooo much flack and hostility because of our condomless rule that is has gone beyond absurd. They have gone so far as that I can't get many to agree to a facial pop-shot because it "Might accidentally get in their eye and they would get HIV."

Just thought I would say thank you. It was a big help from everyone that expressed an opinion.

I think what I'm going to do is just what I film in the French market sell to the French market. Have a bit of fun and make an extra dollar. It just isn't worth the hastle of taking the France Porn industry too seriously.
