if you are going from 4 to 5. head into the ports, go to the mysql 4 directory, uninstall. then go to the mysql 5 directory, make install clean. and that should do it, the uninstall will even leave your db files alone, but that doesn't mean you should not back up all data. if you need more help, you can icq me. I've done it a few times.
