amazing how many would consider taking the law and matters into their own hands without contacting the police first - what if something happened to you? then no one would know.
call the police - then bang on the door and scream out the police have been called.
we had a similar situation at a condo a year back. heard alot of screaming and banging from downstairs - sounded really bad. I ran down to the front security guard while my wife called the police. The cops were there within 2 minutes and the security guard (who is trained) was there sooner.
the guy in the condo had a gun and was screaming at his wife on the phone threatening to kill himself or anyone nearby. Thankfully the cops got there and with one shot fired into the wall, he was caught and taken to jail.
