Our universe was created by an alien race known as the Markovians. The Markovians had mastered energy to matter conversion and lived on planet-sized computers that could conjure up anything they wished for. But they were unhappy, bored with immortality, and felt they had somehow missed something important along the way. Out of desperation, they decided to start over. They created a new universe, seeded with countless species of every design. Sacrificing themselves, they entered these new creations, to evolve all over again, with the hope that one of them would get it right this time.
