    Could you drive by a barefooted, half dressed person walking out of New Orleans?

    I took a break from the news today and I'm just now catching up. They are showing people that decided to fend for themselves walking out of New Orleans by highway. I have no idea how far away they were but some cars were passing them up as they tried to thumb a ride.

    I don't think I would have it in me to just keep driving in a situation like that.

          This isn't like the mobs of people trying to rush a vehicle inside the city. These people set off on foot alone or in groups of 4 to 5 just trying to get out. They are stragglers stretched across the highway planning to walk for days if they have to.

              People walk and drive by homeless, poor, and needy elderly people every day. We should have more compassion and generosity on any given day, not just after catastrophic disaster.

              You can't save the world, but you might be able to save someone's world I guess.

              As for the original question... no I couldn't. But I honestly can't say for sure what I would do... case by case basis I guess.

                  Hard to say unless you are in that situation, it's fine for people to sit in there comfy chairs at home and say ya I would stop.

                          id perfer not to get a screwdriver in my neck because i picked up the wrong person. i probably would stop and throw out some bottles of water if i had any, but picking them up wouldnt be smart.

                                  keep in mind a good portion of those who remained behind in NO were so fucked up they didn't even realize there was a hurricane coming. The ones that were shooting at rescue workers.

                                  So ask yourself, is that hitchhiker just one of the unfortunate ones, or one of the other idiots I just described?

                                  Not worth taking the chance IMO.

                                      I've always offered homeless people a lift, food, whatever. Don't see many of them where I live though honestly.

                                          How many people do you think were out shooting? There were 100,000 or more people left in the city. Even at the convention center that didn't get food because the guardsmen "feared for their lives" the news crews walked right up and interviewed people there. Anyhow, someone walking down the street in any major city could be someone that wants to shoot you for your car.

                                              Another reason I don't is that one of my relatives was killed and dismembered while hitchhiking.
