Can I use a High Def TV as a computer monitor?

I am thinking about having a Comp hooked up to a high def TV in the living room so I can flick over and check emails and shit when I am watching TV without having to get up every five mins to run into the office.....

Would that work?

Is it good enough that you can slob out on the sofa and still read stuff clearly?
