                                how the fuck is a relatively SMALL police force in relation to the amount of looters, going to STOP all of it from happening?

                                                    Sure, some looters were real pricks (tv's, etc ...) but if the National Gards would have been IN PLACE before hand , looting would have been minimal .

                                                    Anyway, no time to loose to convince the inconvincible ... The population is at fault, the pilice is at fault, the mayor is at fault, the governor is at fault ... and it stops there ... how convenient.

                                                            Kid gets arms blown off.. all dr's are too busy to see him and is turned away from hospitals due to lack of resources.

                                                                You're totally right, of course. Mayors really don't have the resources under their authority to handle a situation of this magnitude. I'd say even state governors don't have the resources to deal with such a situation, especially in a more poor state like louisiana. This kind of thing requires immediate action by the federal government. The Feds declared a state of emergency BEFORE the storm hit..they knew what was coming. How could they not have begun preparing relief/control forces?

                                                                Props again to Mayor Nagin for telling it like it is and making it clear in concrete terms the incredible gravity of the situation.
                                                                Arguing whether the Democratic or Republican party is better is like debating which steaming pile of shit is slightly less stinky.

                                                                        A cop got shot in the head when he tried to stop the looting.
                                                                        A national guard was shot at the Superdome when he was trying to secure it.
                                                                        Firefighters could not fight fires coz there was no water pressure.
                                                                        Emergency cars were mostly flooded or out of gas.
                                                                        COPS WERE OUTNUMBERED with looters that were packing heat.

                                                                            I liked the image on Fox News today of the lot full of New Orleans school busses that are still parked in their lot instead of being used by the New Orleans Mayor to evacuate the indigent prior to the hurricane. Surely the Mayor knew that there was a portion of his city who didn't have the ability to leave ... but he seemed to find a way out of town and left his people behind.

                                                                            Is Jesse Jackson back from vacation yet? I haven't seen the Rainbow Coalition roll up into New Orleans yet.

                                                                                        My point is that the city could not cope with the looting with the current amount of police and national guards.

                                                                                        What should have been done is the FULL FORCE of the US's National Guards should have been sent in on DAY 1 to restore order.

                                                                                        FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Over 1/3 of the National Guards are stationed in IRAQ right now. If the National Guard is equipped for IRAQ, they should be more than equipped for NO

                                                                                            WTF do you do to the looters trying to get food, water and dry clothes? Shoot them or lock them up?? Pretty sure the looters will bare arms if they want to live. There is not enough water and food to go around.... Loot or die... People at the shelters have not had water or food for days....
