Looting food in New Orleans - Is it OK?

I think anything you need to survive is fine. Food, dry clothes, water, blankets etc. TV's, jewelry, etc is just wrong though.

I think the way the government has failed them (by not providing public transportation to get out of NO to those who had no other means, by not making sure the city of NO could withstand a hurriccane that was over due, by allowing the airports to be closed while it was still safe to fly out, by not being prepared with national guard/marines to combat looting, etc) that these people acted in an expectable manner. What would you do if there was no law and the streets were empty? It's terrible to think of the murders and rapes that were going on, but the looting, come one.. black/white/asian/latino there's people in every communitty who would love to go ape shit in a mall given the chance.

Exactly. The items are worthless.

Keep something else in mind, even if the shop owners were allowed back in New Orleans, I bet they would just keep the stuff and file a loss anyways.

Looting food is OK, it's not like they're going to be able to sell it later.

Looting non-edible shit... tvs and so on, is kinda like banging the young girl next door... it's ok as long as you don't get caught.
