Hi all. I am looking to buy a new digital camera and I was wondering what you think is the best one to get. I currently have a Nikon and looking to upgrade. I am not concerned about the price.

i suggest checking out a site like www.dpreview.com - they are #1 and have great reviews.. other than that... i'd go for a Nikon D2X or a D80 is cool too ;-)Comment

I've always quoted that 1ds MKII as my favorite camera - but its total overkill for web production. Good if you're shootin' for magazines or billboards.
We just got a Nikon d80 over Christmas - upgraded from our Olympus e10. Still in the testing phase in the studio as we speak.Comment

One tip - whatever cam you choose, invest a fair bit of time testing it out fully...figure out what its capabilities and limitations are under various conditions and settings. Experiment the hell out of it before judging whether its the camera you want/need. Most decent camera shops (the higher end ones, not Kmart...so to speak) will give you a min. 30-day trial period to get acquainted with the rig, with an option to upgrade if you're not satisfied with results.Comment

If ya' need a camera waterproof to 10 feet, sounds like you spend more time overboard.
Is that 'waterproof'...or 'water resistant'?Comment

With dslr's its more the person doing the shooting and the quality of light then the camera.Timothy Greenfield-Sanders for his last book used a olympus e volt 330, which is the bottom of their dslr line.Comment

The lens will all pale compared to the e10 sadly, I have 1200 dollars lens and they are a weak second to the glass on the e10I've always quoted that 1ds MKII as my favorite camera - but its total overkill for web production. Good if you're shootin' for magazines or billboards.

If your not concerned about price why don't you go to a shop and ask for help?....I hate everyone!Comment

Yeah the canon 30d is a great value, the 5d is really good for magazines and stuff but the 30d is an excellent camera for online and home prints. I love mine.
BUT...if you don't plan on learning how to fully use a dslr then you're better off with a compact 5mp pocket cam.
Check jr.com, they usually have really good prices and free shipping on some stuff.
Never buy anything over $50 at places like bestbuy or circuitcity, they add anywhere from 10% to 75% to the price.Last edited by Dood; 02-14-2007, 04:08 PM.Traffic-Out

We bought Nikon D200 not long ago. It is great! But probably you wouldn't like to have about 4 kg in your hand all the time.Comment

For the most part a 5D is overkill for most people. I have the 20D, and it is overkill in most situations. But it is nice.

I have the D2X and can highly recommend it, however I have been told that unless you are a fairly experienced photographer, it can be a bit hard to use (as the options are so numerous) and get strong photos..it is also quite heavy.
I never use it on auto...always custom settinge etc.
If you are just going to use it for web, you may consider something lessor..like the D80 or the D200 is supposed to be an excellent choice."Obscenity is whatever gives the Judge an erection." -- Author UnknownComment
