This one guy from NO on Seattles King5 news has had me in tears 3 times today...

He's telling the story of his wife who died in the hurricane. He had her by the hand and held on as tight as he could. Then she said "You can't hold me no more. Take care of the kids and take care of our grandkids" and it shows his two kids there with him. I'd estimate about 10 and maybe 7...

I mean you can see the devestation and feel terrible but I know when things like this happens, the individual stories absolutely kill me. The guy just kept saying over and over "That's all I had that's all I had"

Prayers for Billy too who has to fuck around with looters right now....

We all need to step back and quit bitching about our own problems that's for sure.

I saw that same story.... was on CNN a lot. If you look closely you can see the reporter wipe a tear from her eye as well during the interview.

Have you seen the full video......?

The reporter was sobbing so bad she couldnt finish it.

He is on his way to being the face of the hurricane I think. Every disaster seems to have one.

indeed, it is easy to look from a distant eye and say "shit happens", but when you are presented with the up close and personal, individual real life stories and specifics, there is no way you can just be passive about the whole thing...

This isn't near being over. There were entire towns wiped out and we'll
be hearing about thousands dead in a few days.

Ummm, if my wife and my two kids lived there and knew a hurricane was coming, I'd fucking leave before it hit. This story angers me because they stayed.

You know some people are too poor or are disabled to leave? Not everyone can just up and leave. The world isn't that simple.

Well even if I only had a dime to my name and no legs or arms, I still roll my torso down the fucking road and bring my wife and kids with me. Plus you assume they're poor and/or disabled, why is that?

Major cities obviously have their fair share of poverty. Some people just didn't understand, with a natural disaster you can't always evacuate everyone.

I don't buy that.. They always offer ways for people to get out. If the people really wanted to leave they would have been taken out by the police or social services.

I feel for the people who died but I don't have a lot of symphony them because they stayed after they were told to leave. I'm sorry but they knew it was going to be one of the biggest storms in the US history. They knew there would be mass flooding and wind damage. So anyone who stayed was a dumb fool IMO.

I saw the guys story and it was sad, but you know what that sad story could have been prevented if they would have left. I've been in a few of these storms myself and I have stayed at home for a few and there is no way in hell I would have stayed at home for that one especially knowing that the whole area was under sea level.

Look at all the rescue workers that are risking their lives to get these hard headed morons. I can understand staying in a storm like I said I've done it myself. But no way in hell would I ever try and stick it out in a storm like that.

Also for the others saying that the US doesn't need any aide. I'm sure we will get through it like we always have but this is much bigger than most people seem to think. They were just talking about it on CNN.

This has effectively put a million people out of work and homeless. Could your country handle that? You think the govt is just going to put them all on welfare and set them up in a styling FEMA trailer somewhere? Even if somehow the govt did this do you have any idea how long something like that will take?

This is an entire major city that just got closed for who knows how long.. Then add in all the other small cities and towns that are in the same position throughout the area.

So Kaiser Sosa You think your country could handle it your selfs if Amsterdam was shut down tomorrow and everyone there had nothing but the shirts on their back? Think you guys wouldn't be asking for any help? You think America wouldn't be sending you donations?

I think the fact you can't even spell the word "sympathy" speaks volumes about the fact you have none towards the people who had no way out.

btw have you even been in a hurricane? I've been though several and I know first hand that if you do not have transportation then there are always free services.

I'm not in any way saying that I have no "sympathy" for the people affected by this storm. I know what it's like first hand and it sucks and I feel for the people that have lost everything. However people that chose to stay in the areas they knew would be affected the most by flooding and so on, well that's a different story.

btw let me know if I misspelled anything else..

Many. I have sat through 4 feet of water on Grand Isle, which was under 20 feet of water recently. My family lost their homes there. I grew up there.

I dont need to share my experiences to feel sympathy for others.

I had to go watch my grandma unexpectedly choker her last breath and then go straight from there to my sons 8th birthday party... We carried on with the party and tried to make the best out of it. His feelings came to the surface much later and in a much different form than the rest of us.

Best bet is he's on his way back to N'Orleans to rescue his mom. Everybody knows Paul. He's like a celebrity in his own right.
