most cops chose the profession so they could get back at the kids who bullied them in highschool, or continue bullying professionally for the rest of their life

I'm not sure about that, but it is indeed a job they choose. They do it because they think it's exciting and with it comes prestige and a symbol of power. It usually has little to do with a sole desire to keep order in communities, no more than most doctors become doctors because of the title and to make lots of money. Most firemen like fire so they become firemen. (their is a higher percentage of arsonists who are firemen than in the general population).
They shouldn't be hated or necessarily praised for simply doing their job.Comment

Most cops are good guys.
But the bad apples are very bad. There is nothing worse than someone who abuses his authority.
The main problem I have is that there is there is little institutional recourse for average citizens who are hurt by corrupt cops. Sure, you can hire a private lawyer if you have a $10,000 retainer. But that's not possible for many people.Comment
