Looking at getting two 19" flat panel monitors to replace my old ass 21" CRT. Anyone have some specific models that are pretty good? Looking to get black ones, not sure if I want widscreen though. Any drawbacks with it?

NEC is the absolute best in monitors...
And even thouugh I Fuckin hate DELL... their deal on the WideScreen-Flat Panels was just too good to ignore. However, my instincts were right in that I had to exchange 3 of them before I got 1 that worked right.
I got the 24" wide and right now I think it's on sale for about $700. After your on a widescreen... There is NO Going Back.
You can usually sniff out the 20" widescreen for around 300 or less.

I hope they're as good as their specs and reviews lead me to believe.. I'm going to get one tomorrow ( Best Buy has the 17" on sale for $179 through Sat. - $60 off! 4ms refresh rate and 1400:1 contrast ratio ). I don't want a widescreen because some games don't support the resolutions they run at and from what I've gathered, text looks "smooshed". Sosa - the only advice I can give is to read the reviews @ Newegg.com. It's those little distinctions that are going to annoy you, it could be the difference between being satisfied and being thrilled with what you get.Comment

I don't have any personal experience with Acer... so I can't judge them (but they are not on my list when I go to buy monitors).I'm actually looking at getting these Acer ones. 22" widescreen for a little over $300. What do you think?
But what I would say is: definitely go Wide Screen.
Personally... I got a lot more done on 1 big widescreen then 2 smaller ones.
Unless I'm just monitoring stuff on 1 screen... I get less done because I have to manage the 2 screens and what's on them. I have a medium sized desk and I can just barely fit 2 Dell 24" Widescreens on it.
I work on one... and the other I hardly pay any attention to ... or watch TV on.

Also on those Acer: the return policy is "There must be a minimum of 8 dead pixels to declare an LCD display defective and eligible for return."
Dead Pixels ANNOY The FUCK out of me... and the only reason I went with Dell is because at the time... they Guarenteed all Pixels... or you could exchange it <<== That's Where they Sold Me on it..Comment

I agree, NEC by far is the best monitors around. I had 4 NEC 21" monitors a few years ago and recently moved over to 2 Dell 21" LCD's. I haven't had any issues with the Dells, but NEC's quality and performance is unmatched.
Aside from NEC, Viewsonic and Samsung make great LCD's as well. When it comes to LCD's you really pay for what your getting.Comment

This picture makes the LCD's look small, lol! They are both 19" monitors (typo'd the previous post) and from the crap picture I took they look like 15"s. The LCD TV to the left even looks small and that thing is 20".
In a couple more months I will be upgrading those to 3 21" monitors, not sure yet if I'll stay with Dell or jump back to NEC, either way it will be a nice change.
*Yes, that’s a blue blanket covering the window... just seemed like a smart idea at the time, Arizona has some tough suns.

Dell schmell.... Nec Bleech.
Samsung actually is the manufacter of the lcd panels. If you want high contrast ratio and wide angle of view you only get with a Super-PVA panel try this:

If you go widescreen go 20" instead of 19", just one inch but higher resolution (1680x1050 vs 1440x900) wich means bigger desktop, smaller pitch and more definition.
22" screens have the same resolution as 20, so you just get a bigger screen wich is good if you have a huge workplace
I just have a ViewSonic VX2025 and it's great. They make great screens and have great support. Overall quality is awesome and it's good for almost everything, movies, gaming or editing pics.
Samsung also does great screens but their support have a very very bad rep (at least here in Spain), it takes them 2-3 months to fix or change a fucked screen.

Don't forget your going to need a video card that can throw the Resolution your monitor needs to look good.
Check the "Optimal" resolution of whatever monitor you get and make sure your Video Card can do it... or get one that can.
LCD Monitors can work at different resolutions.. but anything but the optimal looks like shit..Comment
