How come webmastering still has no serious entry barriers?

Take a look at any major industry, and you'll see the major players building huge walls to keep new comers from even thinking of competing with them.

Why is it different with Internet/webmastering? Or maybe I'm just not seeing the barriers that are in place?

What are EBay doing to ward off competition? What's stopping a well funded entrepreneur to compete with EBay?

Na not true, other then gfy trying to discourage newbies it's an open market.

You can start a cam site with you lover and make a living from it if you market it right. There is damand for everything not just mega-sites. I even think we will see a trend in the next ten years where smaller sites will become a larger market collectivly then mega-sites.

Depending on what path you take to come in, barriers are slowly rising. Many TGPs require passes now or have gone on a pay to play model entirely. Other models have been made less profitable due to super low cost competition from overseas. However, other areas are still free if you know where to look and have either time or invest in certain scripts. I look at webmastering as a giant Darwinian landscape--I try to learn from everyone, both from those who make it and from those who suffer setbacks. Like I always say, as long as you're learning... you're winning.

What are you talking about? That's hillarious. This must be a game where we pretend that newcomers have a chance generating income from the adult industry. LOL. What a fun (but hillariously unrealistic) game to play.

I'd agree with that if certain legal and regulatory issues come to pass.

The biggest barrier is that too many people aren't willing to commit the time and energy it takes to learn a skill on their own and commit months of grueling work into making a successful full-time career out of selling porn.

That's the same as mainstream except mainstream is exponentially larger.

I think by the very fact that there isn't another eBay, to use your example, shows that there are actually many barriers or entry. I believe your example is confused ie. the webmastering v's the business. Web development on a massive scale does require fantastically talented people and a technical infrastructure, but ultimately the web side of things is quite commoditised and quantifiable. On the other hand the business acumen and finding the right people to build a business over time is so much harder the tactical implementation of a site.

Of course any business web based or not could be challenged, but finding the right group of people to do that is harder then it sounds.

Agreed. Or a sick man who can´t do this regular job for a (quite) long time, as long as he is willing to learn and work. I got a decent bunch of money making translations and PHP installations. With porn I´ve been very unlucky though. But if I made 10 sites a day with a lot of free content just to promote sponsors, I guess that would change a lil bit at least. I´m not talking about getting rich here, just the beauty in earning money from your home when you can´t do otherwise.

Ya just do not see the barriers yet.

                                They are there.

                                They are indeed there.

The adult industry is a great example of how things SHOULD be. A good idea, first rate marketing and good content can lead to what 99.9% of people look for in life: Financial independance and the ability to be your own boss.

That being said, it is hard work to make money in the adult business, same as any other business. I know plenty of programs and people that have lost all of their money trying to make a name in this business.
