U.S. Air Force 1988 - 1993
AFSC 81152

heres me at 18 years old, airman freakin no stripes. first week out of tactical training school. at my first duty station Homestead AFB, which was subsequently blown away by the hurricane in 1990 good ole Hurricane Andrew.

and 4 years later as a sergeant. got out as an E-5

i know spannow was in, and i got some very good friends in afghanistan and iraq right now. would be cool to find some more people here that can relate to all that.

What did you do? And was your experienced good or bad?

I have a friend in Korea for another 5 months and he says he's never been so bored in his life, the only entertainment available is drinking and fucking.

i was stationed at osan air base for a year. from 90-91 check it out.
he's right, there is nothing to do but drink and fuck korean girls.
they like it though.

we were shooting mortars at this island way out there. believe it or not, there are greyhound busses on the top that we are trying to knock off.

We were in Chorio, Lacarerra, and arajan.... we were the conoy that hit the PNP station just down from the Arijan Tank farm. Dec 20th 1989.

Lt Paz who was the Lt killed was on my rugby team Captain Hadaad was our couch and he was driving the silver impala that was hit that kicked off the entire thing....

I was also in Somalia Landed Dec 27th 1992 left April 17th 1993 7th Marines, we were in the Stadium in "The Mog" and then went to bothg Bardera and Baidoha....

Somalia was fucking gnarly

yeah, i wasn't stationed there though. i was deployed. i was part of a detail that was guarding millions and millions of dollars. it was insane. i saw the initial attack through night vision. so, actually from some distance away i was watching the silver impala scenario from a great distance. remember when the blackhawk assault came? that was impressive when all those choppers came in.

We share 3 things in common, I was in the USAF for 12 years, we were both stationed at Homestead just prior to Andrew, and both stationed in Korea (I was at Suwon and stayed for 3 years...)

the team after us actually knocked one of them off the top and it rolled down the side. thats about 9 miles away. the 81mm mortar has about a 10-11 mile range when fully loaded with charge bags. they didn't even actually hit the bus. they blew half the mountain side off where the bus was and everything collapsed. i watched it through binoculars. crazy sight.

well, all military if they are smart have additional life insurance coverage. i had a 1 mil dollar policy. as well, when you go to war, there are all sorts of policys and hazard pays and stuff.

if you die, the wife and fam gets your salary for the rest of their lives. they would get your pension. i am not sure of the intricate dealings, but i know that you always have the military to support. id cards, access to the base, and everything it supplies. BX,PX, sometimes hospital, it all depends. i guess every situation is different.
