A drunken pirate?
Didnt really like him as Willy Wonka.
Wasnt very good in the Secret Window/From Hell/Sleepy Hollow roles.
Benny & Joon?
Only roles i kinda liked him in was Gilbert Grape really, and that wasnt a very "difficult" role.
And before casting him to play the greatest modern musical genious, lets try to remember what Johnny did in Crybaby. If that movie hadnt featured Traci Lords and Iggy Pop, i would have shot myself in the face when i watched it.
Not trying to be negative, i just dont think Johnny Depp is that good an actor and i think its obvious when hes given more demanding roles : )
And i think the role of Freddie Mercury deserves a great actor. Im hoping that if they will make the movie they will cast someone 'better' and less known really.
Even though thats the kinda thinking that gave us elijah wood as frodo (someone kill that kid please).

Bummer. I'm sure that you will end up regreating that "boooo" lol. Johnny Depp is one of if not THEE best character acter ever. Also remember such films as "Ed Wood" etc. I can understand that it is your opinion and that you only enjoyed him in a couple of flicks, where I on the other hand have enjoyed every single Depp movie and thought that he was fantastic.
I disagree with you on the "Cry Baby" flick. That was an awesome movie, with or without Tracy Lords and Iggy...come on..."Hatchet Face?" LOL
I personally think that Depp will be able to pull off this character better than anyone else out there. But again, that is my opionion and I am glad to see that others share that with me
I LOVES me some Johnny Depp :P
PS Benny and Joon was an amazing movie...IMO!
