for recurring clients we don't ask for a deposit - but for new customers we had to do that since we had some bad experiences in the past

I dont ask for a 100% deposit either. Never have and never will. I will take a deposit to secure a certain model for a client, thats done all the time or for orders over 20k which all of mine are really. I normally take a 25% deposit for orders that size to cover upfront model expenses, outfits and locations if needed. Then the client pays the other 50-75% when the content is delivered.
Bill paid upfront and he was never ask to. No biggie. He wired it without me even asking. H edoes pay well and thats great. He didnt get his order fast enough so I gave it to him for free. Seems fair to me.

One thing to think about is time.Running to the bank for every 50% deposit means twice the amount of trips to the bank. You get to the bank, you wait in line, you wait for the teller to write the wire, you have to deal with her looking at your account and asking what you do. Thats at least an hour of time. Its so much easier to send a payment once. Most photographers ask for the payment when they send the work. Very few asked for it in the beginning. I fucked up, I couldnt image why someone would want to take my money and not produce anything, or not work quickly to make things right, and then still come to this board.Originally posted by RRACYI have a question for you Bill. I am sure he will send a wire eventually, but the question is why does it have to be like this? I expressed concern so long ago. Why not just pay the $20 fed ex and overnight it. Or why not just say the shoot got ruined (if it was never shot) and return the money back then. It shouldnt be this difficult.
Theres been more than one time when a photographer has said hes low on funds and asked me to run by the fed ex and get a check out or deposit in his account. I see a pending wire fee for that amount so thanks for everyones support. Its sad that I had to go to the boards just to get my money back. The money wouldnt have been returned without all this drama. I think the problem was he only is doing shoots for solo girl sites and since my shoot was smaller, it was not even important enough to do.
