Usually you would get errors on boot up ..maybe it's your power supply or the processor fan is fucked?

definately a hardware issue. I'd back everything up and replace the drive. You never know how long it'll last so do it ASAP

Also if you try a fdsk it can make things worse if it doesn't fix it.

ive got 2 hard drives
when i restart in windows xp on the other hd, theres no noticable problems at all with either hard drive
what the fuck could this be?

drives fail, it happens.
try doing "chkdsk /R /X" on the drive, this could take up to hours depending on the size of the drive. if you cannot properly fix and recover the indexes, the drive needs to be replaced.
