.XXX makes front page of Slashdot.. Interesting comments...

An article and links to past /. discussions on the subject have made the front page of Slashdot. It's always interesting to read the comments of non-industry folks and their thought processes when it comes to adult industry related news/laws/issues.

    hahahaha that was good...
What does a TLD have to do with finding porn, or anything else? Are you gong to make a list of words, append .xxx, and type them into your address bar: aardvark.xxx,.... zygote.xxx?

That piece links to an article which appeared in the Grauniad a couple of days ago, snippet: "None of these registrations and associated registration revenue has anything to do with protecting children. It's all about fear that someone else will use the names, or greed to resell the names. Essentially, whoever gets the .xxx registry is playing the above groups against each other in a game of fear, uncertainty, and doubt - and collecting a large fee no matter who wins.

And pointing to the amount of preregistration claims shouldn't be used to imply that anybody actually wants the .xxx domain. Again, speculators may want it, but not for a reason anyone else would endorse. (Comments can be made to ICANN until February 5at [email protected] and viewed here). Surely, if everyone from civil libertarians and censors to adult industry webmasters says .xxx is a bad idea then maybe we can all agree it's a bad idea, and finally put a stake through its heart."

And, by continually trying to push their own fucked up agenda, ICANN is facilitating it.

Another point being missed even by those hoping to make a profit from XXX is that these domains will be controlled by someone who is cynically (and blatantly to all but apparently ICANN) manipulating the system to his advantage with the thinnest of justification. That is not the type of person anyone in their right minds should want potentially having a monopoly over how/if they do business, no matter what their own short-term agenda.

                it won;t affect anything.

                .COM will still rule.

the issue is if having .XXX made live, means it gives more teeth to having new bills introduced or ressurected to make .XXX be the mandatory labelling method in the U.S.

in that case, then adult blogs might be affected (if in the US), to have a .xxx extension
