Russia could not take out 15,000 guys armed with nothing more than RPG's and AK-47s in Chechnya in the first war and eventually surrendered to them and gave them their independence. Russia had tanks, planes, helicopters w/missiles/guns, artillery and so on and still got taken apart peice by piece. The second war started and they said it would take 2 weeks and they are still fighting many years later after they threw well over 100,000 troops, air power, tanks, artillery etc etc etc at what they estimated to be arond 10,000 "rebels".Originally posted by mrgicaI was talking about china and russia together, because in the post I quoted the guy was talking about "taking care of" those two counties, but relax Im not an anti-american, I rather see USA rule then china or russia or iran or iraq....etc..
Here is some fact to chew on:

REACHING military age annually: 13,186,433 (2005 est.)
Military expenditures - dollar figure: $67.49 billion (2004)

Russia's military manpower:

Where is Rambo 3 when you need him?
All Im trying to say is don't underestimate countries (military) that you know so little about, its ridiculous.
The only way they made any headway at all was by indescriminately bombing civilian cities and targets. Grozny and other cities were completely leveled and they still got their asses kicked.
Russia was never a threat through the cold war years. Anyone that has spent considerable time in Russia after the collapse knows this. China has a smaller military than Russia does i believe and i doubt thier technology is any better than the SCUDS that were falling over and exploding on their own during Desert Storm.
Sorry... Russia and China are not military threats in todays world. Putting on an air show demonstrating a next generation fighter plane is not the same as having 1000's of them in active service with pilots training day in and day out every day to fight with them and the ability to maintain and replace them.

yes we must keep fighting to spread peace & democracy - it's ok cos we're sacrificing the lives of others for a just cause.Originally posted by Mr. SoulMust we fight? I say let commies be commies, let Muslims be Muslims, let Christian capitalists be Christian capitalists. Unless they're going to attack us, I say leave them alone. Lost too many friends and relatives to war already.Comment

Kinda scary thought but the probability is low. There will be no more war til Bush ends his term (kinda prophetic here)Comment

i did not mean it like that. i mean Russia was never the threat that they were hyped up to be through the 70's and 80's. and i meant it within the context of characterizing these nations as massive threats today or them being sleeping giants that can be woken up one day and destroy anything/anyone in their paths. thats just not a possibility for either country.Originally posted by BlueDesignStudiosyou dont' think those nukes on cuba were a threat?Comment

further, two countries with economies smaller than that of California are not going to be a global military threat anytime soon.
