I told her it was true, and that it was one of the more shocking events in U.S. history, although it was mostly brushed under the carpet, like many similar stories regarding the violent history of this country, which was why she had probably never heard about it.

I was more surprised that someone decided to make a movie addressing this event, since it has been largely overlooked in public school history text books.

It will be interesting to see the reaction that this controversial movie brings...
