    Acacia the publicity starts.

    Here it is.

    http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...,767313,00.asp

Spread it around. The more exposure this gets the better.

How long before the mainstream wake up to the fact that if these guys get the porn industry they will be next?

Check out the message at http://discuss.extremetech.com/extre...s?msg=23841.33 The company he's with (gcomm.com) claims to have been at it since 1987.

Sounds like prior art to me- as well as someone who might need to be put in contact with Pornholio...

A friend of mine owns and runs a story site (short sex stories). It is all just text. Not one single video on the website. None.

Acacia sent him a letter saying he has to pay.

I laugh at them. They're fucking themselves because the word is spreading that they're not even thinking about who they send these letters to. All they're doing is assuming every porn site has video on it and then they send the owner a letter saying they have to pay up.

Wake up Acacia! Text is not video! Pictures are not video!

It doesn't matter anyways, since I don't think they have a hope in hell of winning in court.

These are the types of sites that should get together and get a class action suit or a group complaint filing for extortion..

If for no other reason than to let the courts see how irresponsibly they're handling their end of this stuff..

With all the letters sent out ACACIA has invented something new after all. It's called "bulk blackmailing".

                  It's more like extortion spam!

They just send these letters to anyone and everyone.

The Holio.net guys really should be bringing this to the attention of companies like Microsoft, AOL, and Yahoo.

Those are the REAL targets that Acacia wants to get money from. Going after the adult industry is just a way to get some precedent setting cases on the history books.

It's in those companies best interests to help fight this now before Acacia wins a judgement against some company that just couldn't afford to properly defend itself.

Is it because I'm in Czech?

This one of the comments is interesting. Someone contact Holio and tell them about this.

My company (www.gcomm.com) was the FIRST to come out w/ online video streaming (for adult) and even pre-web (dial-up), that I think constitutes "prior-art" which invalidates patents. I don't particulary care for the adult industry (wasn't in charge when that stuff was developed), but I care even less for those who try to screw others with BS patent suits. Do you know who I can contact about this? please reply to [email protected] because I probably won't come this way again...

You and I can make a fortune hosting and running a video gallery. We will be one of the few countries that will be allowed to.

I'm only joking I think my record on this is clear.

But if you have time to read all the comments I think someone should post Acacia address, some one might go there and tell them where they can stick their patent.

                                        Exactly what I was thinking.

It's my understanding that Acacia even wants the right to review and audit your books. If you're a private company, not traded publicly, isn't this sort of financial snooping illegal?

Also, has there been any 'individuals' they have filed suit against, or is it just Corporations so far?

                                        Ouch.

                                          On another note:

Do you think all this attention to the matter is good for our case in the adult industry? Because it stands to reason that if too much attention gets brought to the mainstream regarding this, that ACACIA's STOCK will rise, being that investors might come under the belief that they have a chance to WIN big money from the porn industry, and therefore buy more shares of their stock, further fueling Acacia's financial ability to fight this in court a lot longer than they normally would.

                                          Just a thought.

EDIT: It's pretty clear that online porn doesn't have too much public support. Couldn't all the media attention backfire on us? Instead of drumming up support for the cause, it could empower Acacia by bringing it to the attention of investors who see potential in a company like this, and may have not known it existed before reading about it or seeing the article inspired by our efforts to bring this to the mainstream light.

That's why we have to fight this as a non porn issue.

If Bill Gates, Disney and the rest do not fight these guys now they will 1-2 years down the line and it will cost them a lot more.

Also if investors see the chance of having to go up agianst the big guns, they will run.

Instead of drumming up support for the cause, it could empower Acacia by bringing it to the attention of investors who see potential in a company like this, and may have not known it existed before reading about it or seeing the article inspired by our efforts to bring this to the mainstream light.
why don't you buy stock and use the profits to fight them then ?
