    What a night!

I decided I wanted to go out into our version of the wilderness, where there was no city light in an attempt to watch the meteor shower that is supposed to be happening, so I drove out to the hills on the outside of town, walk out into the darkness . . .. no meteors or shooting stars . . so I head home.

As I am racing down the hill I notice that whenever the curve in the road is to the left, something does not sound right with my front end. So I pull over into the first available driveway, get out, and notice my front left tire is flat.

This means I have to completely unload my trunk which is loaded down with tools and materials from my mainstream job . . . get the spare tire out, get the jack out and proceed to change the tire.

The spare is one of those small, temporary tires, and you are supposed to inflate them with those cans of air. Unfortunately, I forgot that I gave my can to my son several months ago, and never bothered to replace it.

So, now I have a smaller tire on, with about 15 lbs of air in a tire that takes 60 lbs. I decide it is better than nothing and I now creep down the hill to the first gas station . . . which, since it is 3 AM, is closed.

Luckily, they have a compressor to fill tires up, but they cost a quarter, and I have no change with me. So I have to walk further down the road until I find a 24 hour market, where I can get a quarter, walk back and inflate my tire.

So much for going out and experiencing nature. I think I will just go to bed.

I have never been one to pay someone else to change a tire for me.

Oh, there are a few pennies and nickels laying in the console, but they do not work too well for quarter machines

I guess one of the advantages of being in the middle of nowhere at 3 AM is that there is no one to shoot at you.
