Do you stress during an HIV test? Is the Internet creating anxiety?

Went i went for my results last week.......the doctor introduced herself as mrs **** the senior consultant and she said............ "welcome to gonorrhea day!"

For a few seconds i was pooping my pants until she said "Not You"!!

They had so many cases that day she said the nurses had called it gonorrhea day and were all fed up lol

Yes I dead serious. They play these ads during the day. I guess their target is house wives or something. There are several other commercials like this as well.

I find this funny. I am 29 now, but most of my 20's were spent with hideous stomach issues. I spent a great deal of time in the ER.

They always tried to pull the IBS and ulcer deal. And of course, stress. I got so frustrated, I stopped going in.

Turned out, it was apendicitis. I was born with my apendix in the back of my stomach (or whatever is opposite), so my pain made me want to move around, rather than sit still and not be touched.

I still get upset when I think about it.

when i got my first aids test, i had a week of hysterical stress and fear - so did everyone i knew. but there was no internet yet. it was 1987.

btw, ibs is not a stomach ache. your bowel (ibs is irritable bowel sydrome) is much lower than your stomach, and is more pain than you can imagine, plus it causes other wonderful symptoms including the runs, sometimes quite bloody. on the other hand, of the people i know who have this problem, no one has ever given them a medication that worked - but doctors are always willing to try to give them medications and take their money anyway.

i know an older woman who went through years of hell and easily 15 different pain meds, etc, before she discovered she was lactose intolerant. she stopped eating cheese and milk, and now she has no pain. funnny, though - her doctor never even mentioned the possibility that it could be that simple to fix the problem.

Like all talent in the Adult Film Industry, I get the mandatory (i.e., no one will work with anyone who doesn't have a proper test in the previous 30 days) HIV by DNA test every 27-28 days. I never stress over it. And, I feel no anxiety from reading health news on the Internet--in fact, I view it as useful info!

They say 2 months is the curve where the bulk will test positive. I think?

Yeah one of my old roomies had IBS and she used to always be in excruciating pain. She has having to hit the water closet for #2's constantly. We only had one bathroom as well so it wasn't pleasant. She couldnt' seem to find anything to treat it and I felt really bad for her. I don't wish that 'shit' upon anyone.

That is pretty wild! It is amazing how a doctor can overlook something, not mention it, and just scribe away!!

I stress over any kind of test and I always think the worst when going to the Dr. Funny thing though that twice in my life when I was actually faced with these words from my Dr., "All tests are indicating you have a malignancy", the fear was replaced with a sense of calm and my energy turned to using the internet to find alternative treatments and physicians for second, sometimes third opinions. I guess when that which I feared suddenly became reality, I didn't have anything left to fear.
I did end up having surgery both times and I had organs removed but, by using the internet to do research I actually saved myself from even more invasive surgery as the biopsies on the organs they removed turned out to be benign.

I been doing it every 30 days for about ten years now...no I dont stress...I do feel like a big pink pincushion at times.

heres some facts for ya

as a straight heterosexual male who doesn't use IV drugs you are much more likely to get struck by lightning than you are to get HIV even from unprotected sex.

So now you can worry about playing in the rain....

an HIV test only takes the lab about 20 minutes to do...no sense waiting for days you should be able to get 24 hour results...if not order the orasure test online and get 20 minute results...matter of fact this has become my preferred testing method when shooting.

I once tricked myself into believing that I had testicular cancer....As soon as I read the symptoms, I started getting them.

Scary As HELL.

I had my very first HIV test 2 weeks ago. I had unprotected sex with a girl 5 years ago, and I had no symptoms so I didn't sweat it. Then I read up on HIV on the internet.

HIV symptoms can take up to 10 years to present and when they do, it could mean you could have full blown AIDS. Those symptoms are not HIV, but the opportunistic infections that are trying to kill you!

My doctor wanted me to get tested, and I almost went for it, but instead I opted to get tested at an anonymous clinic...and that started the scariest 2 weeks of my life!

It was a 2 week wait for the results. The reason why i wanted an anonymous test is because that prevents the result for showing up on your medical record, so its easier to get medical insurance. Making it easier to pay for inhibitors. HIV drugs are about $400 a month!

Anonymous testing also prevents you from being treated like a freak every time you go to the pharmacy to pick up non-HIV related drugs...

The internet taught me that living with HIV isn't a matter of popping a pill and magically you don't die...its a constant lifelong knifefight with an extemely clever enemy.

If you are HIV positive you have to put off using the drugs for as long as possible, because the HIV virus bluids resistance, what works today doesn't nessarilly work tommarow...in fact you don't take just one drug for HIV, you take three! For those of you who dont have medical insurance that means $1200 a month on HIV drugs.

YOU CAN NEVER STOP TAKING YOUR DRUGS....if you do, you increase the chance of developing resistance....and getting AIDS.

Worst still, all the known hiv drugs were rushed to market because they work, but they all have side effects like diarerra of random vomiting. Imagive having to explain to your boss that you are HIV positive because you could just start puking for no reason...there's no law that prevents your boss form telling everyone you work with that you have HIV either!

So you can just imagine the 2 weeks of terror I've been through...

FORTUNATELY I'M HIV NEGATIVE.

Needless to say, i'm NEVER having unprotected sex ever again.

If any of you reading this are scared, I hope all this detail convices you to use a condom from now on. If you are just about to take the test, then my advice is to get tested. Fight through the fear and do it. Because on the other side if you are HIV negative, you have a second chance to take charge of your health.

If on the other hand you are positive, you are now in an excellent position to mount a defence against the disease, because you were smart enough to get tested BEFORE you developed symptoms. Thanks to your quick thinking, you may NEVER develop symptoms because you you can now monitor the amount of HIV in your blood, and with a doctors help, pick the right time to start taking the drugs.

You're not alone, and drug companies are going nuts developing better and better drugs in fact there was a breakthrough just 2 days ago.

DNA, not Elisa Test

I trust the DNA test that we get a lot more than the Elisa test that tests for antibodies and might take 6 weeks-6 months before measureable antibodies show up. Our DNA tests for replications of the HIV DNA and could show up in 10 days, somes more and sometimes less. I feel more comfortable with the Industry-mandated DNA test than I would with only an Elisa test. We also test by DNA for GC and CL.

The test is accurate only for the day of the test--any exposure after that test and prior to the next test is bad news, which is why I always use condoms outside of the Industry. Even with porn starlets, I worry about them OR THEIR GUY(s) getting exposed behind the girl's back and giving her something that could later be passed to me while she and I are doing a sex scene. In 11 years of having sex on film, all I've had is a couple of yeast infections, probably from girls taking antibiotics and upsetting their yeast balance.
