When I first started out was in the 80's with a BBS system. Sold shareware and image CDs online.
Then in '96 I used 900 phone lines to support my websites since their were no sponsor programs.
Video Secrets came out with live cam program, then Ron Levi of Cybererotica invented the affiliate program and I started making stupid money.
I was sending to traffic to almost every sponsor program that came around and got screwed a whole lot. But the first one's that really paid big were Cybererotica, Web Power (Their old Amateur pics site; they are now I Friends), and Xpics. Xpics was great, in their hayday they paid 17 cents per raw click.Comment

Yeah, we used 300 modems at the time. Do you know how long it takes to download anything at 300 baud? I'll go through some of my old 5.25 inch disks and try to find samples of what was considered on-line porn... Well with hindsight anyone could be a lot richer. No one knew which way the market was going to go. Do you try to build one mega-site or lots of smaller niche sites? There were pic-post sites but no TGP sites. The price of content was outrageous. Bandwidth was extemely expensive and most affordable hosts were very unreliable with high volume traffic.
