Ok all you blog owners please step up to your soap box and preach about the basics of blogs. What software you think is best, what mods you should consider, tricks you may have for maintaining it, the works.
I am very interested in hearing everyones thoughts.

P.S. Real blogs not just modified tgps.

i will share something i learned that I love

i love b2evolution because it is able to control multiple blogs on one backend

I have 3 blogs running right now

Jonstern.net is my main one

I have asscritic.com, which isn't updated as of yet..LOL...but I have it set up at http://www.jonstern.net/asscritic/ and I just have the asscritic.com domain resolve to that folder

and I do the same thing with boobpreview.com

saves SO MUCH time being able to control all the blogs with one backend, and I can share link blogs for all of them etc...

oh, and I used to only update my shit once a week...but I do it every night around 6pm...and since I started doing that I am now getting picked up on google and yahoo in 24 hours for the new blog entries

There was some great information here a couple of months back from a guy who runs a series of fetish blogs. I can't remember his name but his advice was spot on - and probably not what a lot of people here wanted to hear.

A search of the archives might turn something up or hit me up on ICQ and I'll give you what help I can.

1) Blog traffic comes from both direct and SE sources. Know your strategy re where you want your traffic to come from.

2) Blogs are great traffic filters. If you have a low latency/high volume traffic source, maybe you want to make it more sticky through a blog format?

3) Update daily. I can't emphasize this enough. The more updates you have on more subtopics within your primary keyword/topic set the better. IF ANYONE NEEDS CUSTOM TEXT AND FRESH RESEARCH DAILY AT *DIRT CHEAP* PRICES -- ICQ ME OR EMAIL ME.

4) Blogs can be parasitic or independent in terms of traffic. There are many pools of HIGH VOLUME traffic that you can tap into if you build a blog focusing on a topic that the pool would be interested in. Note: the more you stray from the focus of the network the higher the chance your blog will be deemed as spam and deleted.

5) The Power of links. Make sure you update with blog linking methods in mind. This depends on who you are focusing on -- direct readers (high value traffic)? sophisticated blog readers (highest value traffic)? Filtered readers (mid to low value)?

I personally cannot stand working with Wordpress... It seems clunky to me, I feel like I have my hands tied behind my back any time I want to do something creative with the admin panel, or even worse, edit the code.

I recommend Serendipity, have it installed on 4 sites and love it. http://www.s9y.org

i use wordpress on all of my blogs and love it. fuck blogger/blogspot. it's SHIT.

fuzebox: Wordpress is easy as hell to change code. It's SO template based that if you know php a little jerking WP around is cake. mrkris and I have made MANY changes to ours without any problems

I whole heartedly recomend wordpress. and theres shitloads of templates if you're not familiar with making your own. http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Themes/Theme_List

nope. never had any problems pinging after an upgrade. Try posting at the Wordpress support forum. They're all biz and know what they're talking about.

I use Wordpress myself for my first blog. I haven't used any others before but I really like WP.

I have a question re pings. How do I know I am being pinged, other than from site stats? Ping don't seem to be working for me. only showing a few from blo.gs or whatever it is.
