The Tax Man Cometh. How to reduce 2006 taxes now?

I think I can make contributions to an IRA or a 401k to reduce my 2006 taxes.

Is there any way to use buying a house now to offset taxes owed for 2006?

Other than manufacturing receipts for deductions, are there any other ways to reduce the tax after the 1st of the year?

How would you offset interest you didn't pay?
