About the going price these days for high end smartphone/pda's (usually w/out contract though).
The interface looks amazing though. Even if the iPhone isnt a huge success, maybe it will finally teach the other phone manufacturers how to make a usable smartphone. Either way, this can only be good for the mobile adult biz

It actually starts at $499, the $599 version has a 8gb hard drive (rather then a 4gb.)
I don't think you can even compare it to a Razr. I have a razr and it's a piece of shit. It cost almost as much as the iPhone when it was released and it doesn't even do half the shit the iPhone promises.Comment

it's a sweet phone, i was checking out the specs last night. It's definitely something completly different from all of the other stuff that's out there. I wouldn't count on it coming down in price too much though as some have suggested. Take a look at how Apple runs their shit...the price points pretty much always stay the same, they just bring out better stuff all the time and stop making the older stuff. So assuming they market the iphone the same as they have their computers and ipods, it'll probably always be around $600, just next year it'll have 20gb of storage instead of the 6 or 8gb it comes with now.
I'm no expert, that's just how i see it all playing out. If they were worried about moving units they would have released it before christmas.

that's because Dell makes crappy computers that stop working properly about two days after you turn them on. I used to troubleshoot and fix computers for some extra $$$ on the side when I was in University, more often than not the Dell computers that I looked at were crap and had lots of problems.
That being said if you just need to surf the internet, send email, and maybe write an essay...Dell makes some descent price point machines that will do that and more (they just won't be as reliable in the long run as some of the other brands out there).
PS. The iphone is way more tech than most of the computers that we are using right now. the interface is some next generation shit (at least from what i can see on the internet)
